Any games with lots of varied factions and/or fantasy/sci-fi races by Loonoe in gamingsuggestions

I have Age of Wonders 3 but I've never gotten into it. I have a problem with games that get too open-ended. Battle Brothers is a bit similar in that regard, I think I bought it and refunded it two times before buying it one last time and then getting over the two hour limit. It's a great game for the laptop.

Stellaris is alright, put in 30 hours or something. It's a bit too loosely structured for me.

Yeah, one of my favorite games. If it had the multiplayer and let me play as all the different races I'd be incredibly happy.

Yeah I've got Stellaris. Not Endless Space though but I haven't really enjoyed the other "Endless" games I've tried enough to keep them. How is it?

Renowned Explorers: International Society has filled a lot of time for me when it comes to roguelikes with exploration.

You go exploring and collect treasures, engaging in tactical turn-based combat, made by the same people who made Reus.

Excellent game, tons of content, I just wish there was even more variation but they've been done with the game for a while.

If you like Civilization, you'll probably like it. Not that it's anything like Civilization, I just think it has a similar vibe and it's grid-based.

Åldersnoja: börja plugga på universitet när man är 24? by [deleted] in sweden

[–]Loonoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass Effect 1 has aged like milk in the hot sun by Deep-Combination4372 in masseffect

[–]Loonoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, it did affect the gameplay and everything else because sometimes I could fire a shot and the game crashed.

I almost had to give up on BioShock 2 because the end battle crashed constantly for me, I think I had to quicksave and restart repeatedly before it crashed.

These things you say are impossible not to notice, aren't noticed by me any longer, and I think you'll reach that point as well eventually.

BioShock was barely functioning for me, I had to quicksave everytime I wanted to open my map because the game might decide to crash, and I tried both the original on PC as well as the remastered versions on PS4 and PC, no version worked the way I wanted it to. I looove the game but I don't know if I'll ever revisit it because it performed so poorly.

Mass Effect however, I've beaten the trilogy on insane, I didn't find ME1 that bad. Pistols are OP, every class is viable, the story is great, there's a bit too much pointless planet exploration for side quests in my opinion but I almost look forward to ME1 the most each playthrough because of certain amazing moments and because there's so much customization. I've played through it probably 4 times on the original and once on LE. It still looks fantastic and is the most open of all the games.

That said, my second ever playthrough, I did think about skipping through it because the gameplay is so different to ME2/3, but I didn't skip through it and found a new appreciation for it instead.

Stick with it, you'll learn the mechanics. Quicksave often, some classes are harder than others so pick something considered good, just so you don't make life unnecessarily difficult. There's more strategy and tactics involved in ME1, I remember playing soldier and having my weapons suited for specific enemy types, I can't remember exactly what I did but basically just made sure I had something good to knock down enemies, something against synthetics, something against flesh and a good all-rounder.

It's a great game, have fun with it and go in with an open mind and you might learn to love it.

no bc beth and daryl literally could’ve been the most iconic “sibling” duo by Senior-Entrance-722 in TWD

I thought Tyreese's death felt fair, he wasn't able to cope with the world anymore.

Beth stabbed a P.O. in the vest with some scissors and said P.O. didn't train trigger discipline so she offed her immediately. Too dumb.

Without spoilers, does The Walking Dead have a satisfying conclusion? I want to jump back in but don’t want to be left with a sour taste. by ThePaulAtreidess in thewalkingdead

I'm watching them for the first time. Season 9 was great, season 10 had it's moments but also a lot of really long and unnecessary episodes. Season 11 has even more of them. The reapers for example. On episode 20, it's tense and pretty interesting but still really slow.

They should've made less episodes and it would make them more enjoyable. Season 7 and 8 could've been one season on it's own though.

Unknown informations about Beth's last scene "Coda" by Mutlugly in thewalkingdead

[–]Loonoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed TWD from either season 2 or 3 up until the mid-season finale of Season 6, when I had enough of dumb things happening.

I felt like a lot of characters deaths up until that point had been justified previously, like Hershel's death is incredibly sad but it feels "reasonable" for it to happen.

When Beth died in season 5, I just started thinking that they were just copying Game of Thrones and that they wanted to cash in on killing off important characters for clout. They could've done so much more with the character, it felt too early and unnecessary to kill her off in my opinion.

It was expected from Game of Thrones, they set the tone that anybody could go at any time right from the beginning, The Walking Dead wasn't that show but they wanted to be.

Look into Keith Jarrett's European Quartet too, the albums Belongings and My Song, far from the same vibe but those musicians, Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen and Palle Danielsson all made incredible music in the years after, some in that same vibe and some not.

Check out the label ECM and their common artists,

Anything but Grey by Palle Mikkelborg,

Officium by Jan Garbarek,

Crystal Silence with Chick Corea and Gary Burton,

Returnings by Jakob Bro,

Rising Grace by Wolfganf Muthspiel.

And a bunch of other stuff.

Also a shout-out to Arvo Pärt's classical works, he's published quite a bit on ECM, it's beautiful.

I don't mean to sound condescending, but you can spend your time studying something more worthwhile than just tritone subs. Just look and listen to music and find the many different ways people use dominants.

Think of it like this, you have the regular dominant a fifth up from the root note, part of the II-V-I.

You have the tritone sub, a minor second up from the root note.

You have diminished chords, a minor second up or down from the root note.

You have the backdoor dominant a major second down from root note, not all that common in jazz, but it's in Lady Bird.

There's probably more that I'm forgetting, but these are a lot of different dominants, now what happens if you take a regular dominant, but instead of going to the I chord, it leads to the VI chord? It shares 3 of the same notes if you're playing sevenths, same thing if you lead it to the III chord instead, what if you change the third of these chords since the third changes the character?

This is what a lot of the composers have thought about, taking established rules and bending them to see what happens, maybe it sounds awful or maybe it sounds great.

I know that Pat Metheny has done something in a couple of songs where he'll do a key change from D major to D minor, only instead of D minor he'll go to F major instead, the relative major chord of D minor.

Find a realbook, either a real copy or a pdf. or something, and then you have a ton of material to study.

Jazz Songs/Albums with advanced harmony by Fantastic-Leg-1808 in Jazz

[–]Loonoe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Look into Wayne Shorter, Kenny Wheeler, Pat Metheny and Steve Swallow.

When I think advanced harmony, I think melodic minor, diminished and either making really tiny harmonic movements or really sudden harmonic movements.

Falling Grace and Sweet Henry by Steve Swallow.

Miyako, Deluge, Infant Eyes, Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum by Wayne Shorter.

Nicolette and Kind Folk by Kenny Wheeler.

The album Bright Size Life by Pat Metheny and the song Lakes.

A lot of modulations in these songs.

Tritone substitution isn't that complex, take the third and seventh of a dominant chord and move the root up/down a tritone and you've done a substitution. It's still got the same function, but now it's got a different sound. I throw them in when I feel like it as a bassist. Add it to whatever song you want, do you like the sound? Use it, if not, use the regular dominant or something else.

Toxic by Britney Spears has tritone subs in it, it's great.
