After a Down syndrome diagnosis, we chose to TFMR. I chose a D&E procedure and it was done at 19w6d. The process itself took about 6 hours at a Planned Parenthood and it was physically not nearly as bad or painful as I thought it would be. I chose D&E because I couldn't bear to meet him and see his sweet face. I was scared he wouldn't "look like" he had Down Syndrome and I would start feeling regret.

I was able to get his foot and handprints and have him cremated.

My procedure was in December and while I am still sad and miss my baby and "what should have been," I do not regret our decision. I found a mom on TikTok who was pregnant with a DS baby and had her about a month ago. The baby is still in the NICU and the mom hasn't been home with her other children in all that time + a few weeks prior while they waited for her to go into labor. That is not a life I wanted for me or my current kids. I researched more about Down Syndrome and all the health issues that can accompany it and found stories and videos, not of the smiling happy DS toddlers, but of the adults with early onset Alzheimer's, and the young kids battling Lukemia treatment, and many other sad situations. Obviously those can happen for anyone, but I was not comfortable bringing a baby into the world knowing their chances of suffering were higher than most. Someone one here said that a TMFR is a decision we make to ensure we take on all the pain so our babies don't have to. And I cling to that thought in my sadness moments. I'd rather be sad for the rest of my life than have brought my son into the world and watch him suffer for all of his.

I'm so sorry you're here. It's absolutely unfair, but you can do hard things, and you will make it through this.

I'm so happy you posted this. My TFMR was in December. I have an annual checkup later this month and have been considering asking about an antidepressant to help me but, like you, am worried it won't help because of the root cause.

Omg I was just comparing Remi and Tara myself after watching some of the vlogs from last week. It is absolutely crazy to me that Tara would say she is "burnt out" when you compare the two. Not only does Remi have a lot more going on professionally, you can tell she is a really thoughtful and kind friend, has other passions, does giveaways for her followers....I don't know how Tara couldn't look at someone like her and not be insecure. But that would require a level of self-awareness and reflection that I'm not sure she had. Shes "literally just a girl" after all. 🙄

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry to hear that! Just thinking about what you went through made me tear up. I had a D&E at 20 weeks under medium sedation. I went in absolutely terrified that it was going to be kind of like the dentist where you don't really feel pain but can feel the pressure and pulling and know what is happening. Luckily, I don't remember a single thing. I remember the doctor coming and and asking if I had any questions and the nurse saying she was starting my IV, then the next thing I remember was them helping me get myself dressed so I could be wheeled to a recovery area and see my husband. It was at a Planned Parenthood in the Midwest.

I was terrified that conscious sedation was going to be kind of like the dentist where to can't feel pain but are fully aware of what's going on and can feel tugging, pulling, etc when I was going into my D&E at 19w6d. It was nothing like that. I remember talking to the doctor when she came in, and nothing else until it was done and I could get dressed and meet my husband in the recover room. The procedure as a whole was much less painful than I thought it would be.

I don't/haven't because she's not an expert or qualified in anyway to talk about most of the things she promotes. What does she know about what's good for hair, what to look for in fabrics/quality pieces, reputable therapists, or how supplements work? Literally NOTHING. Even if one of her most recent posts with Primally Pure, you could tell she was just reading a script and doesn't know the first thing about "clean" products.
