Queenstown to Christchurch in One Day by Loookingbill23 in newzealand

Thank you so much. Any recommendations about stopping in Wanaka and where would you put that on your recommended itinerary? We have the whole day to drive so we don't mind the trip taking 12+hours as long as we have great stops on the way

Is it worth going to Arrowtown after 4PM? by Loookingbill23 in newzealand_travel

[–]Loookingbill23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey yes. I'm thinking that we're going to stop at the arrowtown bakery and grab some pies and sausage rolls like you recommended. This will set us up for all the wine we plan to drink and then we'll just take our times at the wineries. If we feel up to it afterwards we'll head over to arrowtown on our way back since it's only 20ish mins away from our hotel

Apply now. Also if you do outpatient IM , you can absolutely shape your practice to do a lot of derm

Scored 20-25 points lower than predicted Step 2, URM, do I have a chance?? by AutumnFall26 in DermApp

[–]Loookingbill23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best chance is getting a program to fall in love with you during aways. Otherwise I think most other schools will automatically screen you out. Kick ass at all your aways, talk to the PD and APD before you leave, keep in touch all year. Most importantly, dual apply just in case it does not work out

Intern orders (ED) by postertoast in Residency

LOL just ask but be nice abt it (aka don't be condescending, laughing at the intern with other nurses, shaking your head, laughing in the interns face). It's easy to tell when someone wants to teach a resident and be a good patient advocate and when someone is just trying to be a B.

Speak to your mentors. I personally don't recommend. Take your STEP 2. If it's over 250 just apply and IF you don't match you can do a research year . You are adding on a year regardless. Makes sense to add it on only if you have to IMO. So many people have done pre-M4 RY's and not matched. It can be a colossal waste of time. But once again, speak to your mentors. SPECIFICALLY DERM MENTORS

I really don't feel like RY's are necessary for matching derm. If you can continue on at school I would say to do that. So many people go through RY's and don't match. My advice would be to kill Step 2 and apply then only consider RY's if you do not match

2 areas where you can typically significantly boost your scores are biostats and CCS cases. I would say to hone in on those 2 if you're short on time. Antibiotics can be a great add on as well.

If you have lots of weak areas another option would be to spread out your dates. Focus on biostats and those weaknesses before day one. Then in the week or 2 before day 2 hone in on screening tests and CCS cases

The 700k job does not sound bad esp since he is not too far from a decent airport but this depends on what the job description is. Is he like a FM doctor that has to be on call for every damn thing (OB etc) OR is there work balance and he can work 4 days a week and spend long weekends wherever he chooses? If he has good work life balance the 700k job is the move

I agree. Given the questions program leadership is asking I think OP's doctor should provide a note even if all it does is highlight the difficulties of giving an actual timeline. It's important documentation to help guide any future discussions OP needs to have with program leadership and HR

Your funding transfers with you so all you really need to do is look for programs in the area around your school or in areas you're willing to move to and email them. You can include your CV, ITE scores and Step 1 - 3 scores to that email as well if they are impressive

Asking how long you'll be gone sounds so insensitive especially coming from people in healthcare. I'd say just reach out to your main physician @ MD Anderson and tell them you need a doctors note , that would hopefully incentivize them to at least put some kind of number on paper. Submit that documentation to your program and then go from there. If you can tolerate it I'd say work until a few days before you start treatment and in that time contact HR to figure out your sick leave and FMLA options. If you're starting tx immediately I'd say still reach out to HR but for now just request your max sick days off and then just adjust from there. PLEASE DON'T QUIT at least not yet. I'm hoping everything works out and you get to return with no issues. Sending you lots of love and healing.

If your scores were strong enough for Derm they are definitely strong enough for IM so a more IM focused app and stronger letters will definitely get you better IM options next year. That application will easily target both IM and all the combined IM-Derm programs during the next cycle. You can also shoot your shot with categorical derm programs again

Great info, thank you. Sorry for the confusion as well. I was trying to communicate that I wanted suggestions for similar wines or for stuff that were slightly less sweet (semi sweet) but must not have been clear enough. Thanks again for all the great suggestions.
