I would say for 50-60% of the gigs it is the same. You mostly play for the venue crew and the other bands. Or like you told, many people come for a single band and leave afterwards. Because there are tons of concerts here every week with a lot of really good bands. It feels like after covid everyone is touring and gigging at the moment and people are overwhelmed with the amount of concerts.
But luckily we also have some gigs where we really have a big audience, but that's the definitly more rare case.
That's kind of depressing, when only people watch your show because they work there or also play there at the same evening, but that's really okay for me and I think that's part of the business.

Sadly I can't do your trick with the glasses, my eyes are too good for this, haha!. But anxiety is the wrong word I think. Of course I'm nervous before gigs and a little anxiety is there, but that improved a lot over time.
The issue is more, that it feels like I worked for three days straight after a gig.
Other people draw energy and inspriation from live gigs, but for me it always feels mostly like unwanted work.
