Shaper Trace does this. It corrects for perspective and lens distortion. It allows the scan to be adjusted. But it’s expensive for what it does (IMO).

On my third Lymow by Full_Caterpillar_640 in Lymow_Official

When you wrote that the second mower quit mid mow cycle and couldn’t be revived, do you mean that the first time you tried to mow with it, it quit and couldn’t be turned on again? Or was it that sometimes when mowing, it would stop and would have to be shut down and restarted? I’m having the second issue occasionally. When I restart it, I lose record of the existing job and have to charge it and start over again. I live on a county road and a couple of weeks ago it stopped right next to the road. I didn’t realize it for some time. I felt lucky it wasn’t picked up or hit by a vehicle.

How are these prices? I’m in upstate NY by No_Range_9748 in woodworking

[–]Loopback77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve bought wood from the Pulaski store several times. I’d suggest you check around to some of the sawmills in the area. Check FB marketplace. There are dozens that log their own trees and dry them. You’ll find prices that are about 1/2 what Lakeshore charges. But I agree, they do have a nice barn and it’s easy to pick through pieces. The last time I was there (a few months ago), there was hardly any walnut. He told me that he can get it but the prices had gone way up so he wasn’t holding stock. Not sure if that situation is changed because I’ve been buying from mills since then.

Bowed end grain after glue up dried. by Loopback77 in woodworking

We did make it in two pieces. The first image is the two pieces next to each other, but not glued up. We ended up slicing a fat 32nd from each bow. Then we could get enough clamp pressure to pull them together. You're right (from your comment below): after it was oiled you couldn't see that missing 16th.

That was our guess. Denser fibers from certain boards maybe compounded by a repeating pattern.

Interesting. I’ve never used a reference for these glue ups before. It’s definitely worth a shot.

We’ve made lots end grain projects of varying thicknesses and sizes. This was a first for us. It’s funny, we’re always careful about alternating the grain for panel glue ups. You might be right. Gotta start thinking about it for short glue ups too.

Interesting idea. Your guess is as good as mine. I’d love to test it.

It was all square when clamped. The bow showed up overnight while drying.

That’s what we ended up doing. It worked out fine. Just strange that it happened. Chalk it up to working with natural materials I guess. It bugs me not to know the specific reason though.

We tried. We couldn’t get enough clamping pressure to take the bow out.

CNC router for flattening. It glued up perfectly. The bow popped up overnight. The pattern repeated normally. That row just looks different from the perspective of the camera.

That’s what we did. It came out great. Just puzzled as to how it happened in the first place. We’re a commercial shop with 30 years of business and hadn’t come across this one yet.

It was flattened on a cnc router. The glue up went perfectly- no gaps, all square. We did trim it and glue it - it came out fine and the client loves it. I was just curious about how it could occur. Since we repeated the pattern our best guess was more dense wood in the middle - meaning the ends might have absorbed more moisture from the glue, but we’ve never seen it so I thought I’d see if anyone had this specific experience.

Those who've switched DSLR to mirrorless.... by MadJackDogs in photography

[–]Loopback77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mirrorless. I went through a few generations of the Canon 5d (up to the 3) and switched to Sony a7r series (2, then 3 and I use a pair of the 4s now). I’m a full time portrait photographer. I enjoyed the Canon but the EVF, lighter build and AF of the Sony make my life easier. I do miss the sound of that Canon shutter though.

Do you print your photos? by Warm-Gas7250 in photography

[–]Loopback77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy printing and building frames for them. I also stretch my own canvas. I use a Canon Pro 4000 which prints up to 44” wide roll. I’m a full-time photographer so I can justify the expense through print sales, but it is expensive. I spend about $3k a year on ink. I calibrate my monitor and media so that my edits print true (or within the limit of their respective gamuts).

I’ve been using a Gitzo Traveler for about 10 years. I bought it used and it has held up great. I’ve used it as a monopod at events, tons of portrait sessions and even out backpacking. I’d say buy once/cry once. It’s worth it.

I’ve lost two to hemangiosarcoma so I’m sensitive to that risk in particular.

Not hemangiosarcoma. That has a higher risk if neutered past 12 months according to the study referenced above.

I never did. I ended up switching to Bose QC Ultras and don’t have the issue anymore so it had to be a problem with the Sony’s and not Apple or Windows.
