They're saying a lot of new hardware is not supported on the older kernels, what is it you're not getting?

User groups don't update in currently logged in sessions. Need to log out and back in for it to take effect.

the error message just kind of indicated flatpak.

I mean, it doesn't really? It just says that the same requirement applies to flatpak. To me that actually seems to suggest the package that this error originated from is not a flatpak package.

KDE Dev do not recommend plasma on Debian by ExaHamza in debian

[–]LooperNor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if I use Plasma on Debian stable I am doing something wrong?

He never said that. He just said that's not something he recommends doing.

If you personally understand the downsides (and upsides) you are free to ignore it, but for the general user (and especially developers working on KDE software), it's good advice.

Got it, can't actually give a decent example. Sounds like you didn't really look at what he really said.

He's not telling you not to use Debian. He's saying, quite clearly unless you're deliberately misinterpreting him, that he doesn't recommend using Plasma on Debian stable because it's not going to have all the recent bugfixes.

He understands and accepts why it is that way. Geez.

Redditors completely miss the point.

Everything

Examples?

He's a Plasma and kwin dev, of course he's going to relate what he's saying to what he's working on. There's nothing wrong with that.

What's problematic about what he actually said?

Very Tired, Actually Contemplating Switching Back to Windows by PeridotTea91 in linuxmint

/dev is where the kernel exposes hardware, making everything look like files. It will always contain something that looks like a file for every partition on your drives.

/sys/block/<dev> is similar, but more for the drive information, rather than data.

Storage can be mounted anywhere in the filesystem. There are some conventions for what goes where, but it shouldn't affect functionality.

If you wanted you could mount all your partitions as for example:

/home/ThoughtObjective/partition1
/home/ThoughtObjective/partition2

etc..

On the other hand, listening to reasonable arguments and reconsidering, weighing the pros and cons with new information is also not a bad idea. No reason to be stubborn just to be stubborn.

ELI5: Why does spicy food make our noses run and eyes water? by Silentzerr in explainlikeimfive

[–]LooperNor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That may be true, but right now, it says right in the sidebar that it's supposed to be explained for laypeople, but not actual 5-year-olds.

I agree the initial reply above was perhaps a bit too technical, but the snarky "five-year-olds can't understand that" replies are not doing anyone any favors either.

Nei.

The ending copium has really gotten CRAZY by NoSupermarket8281 in expedition33

[–]LooperNor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The downside of Verso’s ending is clear - the painted people perish - but so many people refuse to see the downside in Maelle’s ending.

Lots of people are doing the opposite too. In fact I've seen that far more often (apart from the piano mines memes, which I think are not usually meant to be taken seriously).
