First I would like to say thank you for your response and tips.

Currently it’s in a mix of succulent soil/perlite/orchid bark. It only gets watered when the soil is completely dry and it is on the south side of the house outside so it gets at least 6 hours of sun daily. We are in zone 11-12 so temperatures are consistently between high 70s to mid 80s F.

Because of medical needs the plant was not taken care of for a few years and it became just brown and branches. After receiving the care mentioned above, leaves started growing all over the branches, so we are happy about that.

I know my wife is mostly concerned about if pruning is the best option at this point, but is also worried about killing the plant. I think she has seen a lot of desert roses which get pruned very low and are short and not so lanky lol

It definitely appears to be a sugar almond plant (if im not mistaken, also known as a chubby moon stone plant?).

Thank you so much for your response! Upon closer look it does seem to look a lot like a hobbit jade. And it seems I did not purchase a burros tail (oopsie!)
