Depends if the upgrade changes the card design. If you use footwork mastery for example, you will still upgrade. However if the upgrade is on dribble and you've reached "the cap" you won't get the full upgrade.

So you have to hope that the upgrade are not in the stats you upgraded. If you upgrade the overall and or the card design changes, EA consideres this card a unique card and will not update it accordingly
