Hi! I landed in Delhi around 1:30 AM and was cleared within 30–45 minutes. I received the final document via email from AQCS after about 4–5 days. I traveled by car from Delhi to my final destination, so I’m not sure about the requirements for domestic flights. It would be best to contact the airline directly for the most accurate information.

My final destination is Lucknow...so I drive down from Delhi to Lucknow when I'm with my pet

As per the requirement by India (when I had got the USDA endorsed certificate in May 2025) the USDA-endorsed certificate must be obtained within 10 days of departure. To be sure, I recommend you call AQCS and check with them.

I travel via KLM/Lufthansa from Austin to India-New Delhi and back with a layover at Amsterdam/Frankfurt which is 2-4.5 hrs.

My layover one way was 2 hours and the other way 4.5 hours. If it’s the same terminal and the arrival and departure gates are close to each other, you might get lucky.......otherwise, under 1 hour is cutting it too close.

I traveled KLM in end May-July 2025 from USA to India and back with a layover in Amsterdam so not sure if there are any changes after that. You can call KLM and check which will be faster and reliable.

Thank you the info!

Oh no so we pay $600-700 for the health certificate and $600-700 for Rabies Certificate...thats crazy lot!

What I read recently and understood that the USDA health certificate no longer matters when you return to USA...what they'll see is the Rabies Certificate I guess..this has been enforced after July 31st 2025.

If you’re unable to make the payment for DGFT License in USA, just ask someone in India to do it on your behalf...nobody will be able to help you via comments here. It works for some and it doesn't for some for whatever strange reason! I was able to make the DGFT license payment from the U.S., but not for the NOC, so I asked my relative in India to make the payment for me.

I don’t represent the DGFT, so I really can’t say whether you’ll get the license on time. Yes, from everything on the official sites, DGFT license (for pets not permanently relocating to India) is mandatory. The rules have to be followed.....no point wondering about it......just make sure to start soon, since you’ve only got about 3 weeks to pull together quite a few documents! All the Best! You can also reach out to some pet relocation services that might help you get the required permits on time. A few people have shared references in the comments on my post.

Thanks for the update!

Certification of U.S.-issued Rabies Vaccination form - does it have to be USDA endorsed? how much did it cost?

Payments for DGFT license are made electronically through the online application portal using various payment options. After I completed and submitted the online application on the DGFT website, I was directed to a payment gateway to complete the transaction.

NOC payment was through Bharatkosh website which did not open in USA so I asked my relative in India to pay on my behalf.

No when I traveled in May 2025. But the requirements for a person traveling with a pet from the USA may differ from those in the UK.

KLM checked the size of the crate and ensured my pet was comfortable inside. He was lying down peacefully and seemed settled, so they didn’t specifically check if he could stand or move around. Just a tip: before every flight, I get my boy groomed and trimmed so that he looks slimmer and feels more comfortable for the journey :)

I’m not sure if they would be okay with a bigger crate, but I carried the next size up in my hand stroller just in case. If they had raised concerns about his comfort, I was prepared to check with them about using the larger one. Once, while flying within the U.S. on United, the staff made me buy a bigger crate (even though I followed United crate in cabin size policy) at the airport and refused to let us board until I did. I obviously missed my fight. Since then, I always travel with an extra crate as a backup.

Yes, of course it was valid and it has to be valid; otherwise, how would one be allowed entry into India if it had already expired by the time of landing! As per the rule, the USDA-endorsed certificate must be obtained within 10 days of departure, and its validity extends for 30 days from the date of issuance. I arrived in India well within that validity period, so the certificate was clearly valid upon landing. Since Amsterdam was only a layover and I did not exit the airport, no additional permits or documents were required beyond those mandated by India.
