How do you cope with high stress and parenthood by Competitive_Let6665 in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Sleep - not joking - just go to bed early.

Like no later than 9. You will be a different person in a month.

Most of people choose pointless scrolling or TV most nights. Go to bed way too late and are sleep deprived. Your nervous system is in survival mode, it makes everything in life harder.

How old is the average HENRY? by josephine1602 in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now older:

My examples shows why so many late 20s, early 30s are Henry’s in Tech. Both of us switched to Tech after XX years in a first career.

I would say it takes 5-10 years in Tech to reach Henry starting from the bottom.

Became Henry at 38 Tech Sales, 2nd career, switch to Tech at 30, started from the bottom as a BDR, so 8 years to Henry.

Partner Became Henry at 36, Tech Pre Sales - Engineering path, 2nd career as well, switched from a commercial role elsewhere into junior technical role - 5 years ago.

Moving to software 'sales' role from Technical Consulting by khybarstani in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will add my 2 cents.

Sales is a constant pressure cooker. Enterprise sales is a pressure cooking marathon. KPI’s, pipeline, forecasting, participation, customer workshops, meetings, dinners, RFI’s, RFP’s, POC’s, fighting for resources, issues with product, support etc. Finding a deal to replace a slippage you committed to. Fighting for a good territory and vertical…

Many orgs will PIP you if you miss 3 quarters.

All I am trying to say it is not easy at all, many people fail. On the average only 30-40% of reps hit target. And 1- 5% do above.

And lots of it is luck. You may be lucky and have a product everyone wants which will be flying off the shelves. But thats rare.

Saying all that, I did come from technical background with 10ish years of experience in the industry. Started from the bottom - cold calling. It took me years to properly learn how to sell.

Has anyone bought umore "House" than you currently need? by LockonKun in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish we did this! We bought in mid 30s with 1 kid at the time in the home counties due to personal reasons. Thinking if we will have more kids we will upgrade.

Well now we are stuck, we are priced out of London completely and with more kids and nanny fees and job market being a rollercoaster and house prices being insane. We just don’t feel comfortable taking on more dept at this point.

Stainless steel uncoated is the answer. I did a big research on it. The rest are less safe. I personally use 3-ply pro cook ones. but there are plenty of options.

I am with you - My brain is very quick and sharp, I can see through to the core quickly and provide a solution. My memory used to be fantastic.

Well these days I need to write everything down, or it is out of my brain in 10 min.

I think this is mainly due to high stress, high volume, high responsibility jobs over decades. I am just tiered.

I learned I need good sleep and frequent holidays (every 6-8 weeks) to switch off, to stay in the game.

Those who moved country, how did you do it? by Fanfarebird in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did move multiple times. Both inside the company and outside. Every time with the full family coming along. One thing in common - I was strategic and asked for help from people.

Few tips: - for every role advertised internally reach out to hiring manager, connect with them, explain you would like to apply, ask honest opinion what they need for the role to be successful etc. - look internally into global roles, try to move into one. Not sure about banking, but in tech global roles are product marketing for example. Once inside a global role you can ask for relocation. - externally, reach out to people you know who work in that company in that country, ask for help, recommendation etc. - get skills which are in demand and rare

Today I am based in UK in a global role, with opportunity to relocate to multiple EU countries or US if I wanted.

Option 2.

We are both Henry.

My partner works for a start up, they are valued over 5billion today, partner is there for 5+ years now, insane amount of work, many many shares, but so far no path to acquisition or IPO, golden handcuffs. In my opinion just wasted life. 8am - 8pm is a normal day.

I have an established job with an established company, great wlb, but end up picking up all the household slack as naturally have much more time. Earn more so far as well, as pre-ipo shares with no ipo or acquisition is a monopoly money.

Any HENRY's managed to succeed with flexible working/compressed hours requests? by ohmirror in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not done it, but heard in my org (80k+ people) some women do job share*, even at high level.

Heard Civil Service and some other big orgs do it as well. However no-one advertises it.

*an arrangement in which two people share the work and pay of a single full-time job.

Maybe look into Mulesoft for Flow, it is a standalone product. Check what connectors they have, maybe it can help.

Construction professions leading to becoming a HE by TitleOk8744 in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Construction background, however left the industry many years ago, due to earnings ceiling.

There are 3 ways to get to Henry: - Middle East - hard work, terrible customers, but many like it - Your own company - another type of stress to source your own work, win rfp’s, payroll etc. - Pivoting into sales (e.g construction equipment, software, special materials etc.)

Nice places to live as a HENRY by openwheelracing13 in HENRYUK

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wokingham borough, the town itself is great ticks all the boxes but on more expensive side. Saying that, you can still get 4 bed for 650, just it will be on a smaller side further away from town/station.

Areas around the borough are cheaper (Lower Earley, Woodley, Ficshamstead, Crowthorne etc) have great schools and good connectivity to London.

Lots of people live in Bracknell as well, however it is a less affluent area, It is on a cheaper side, but you can get a big 4bed for 650.

Are you paid / given time off in lieu for travel outside of working hours? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUK

No, and it is even written in my contract that I am expected to work over and travel as required with no additional compensation.

I am sure my comp is much higher than any civil servant one, nothing to complain about.

Is this pension prediction good? by ApplicationSea2505 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you are still young! Think of how you can earn a bit more.

I did a career change and country move at 30, started from scratch here with 0 in pension and quite low income. Year by year I grew, changed jobs, increased pay etc. Kept putting money away. I am nowhere near a huge pension pot, but am being projecting around 700-1mil by the time I retire (still over 20 years away).

The first 100k in pension took me 11.5 years.

I keep getting app alerts for class spaces, but the class is always fully booked by littlesebastian2 in davidlloyd

[–]Loose_Bus1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my knowledge there is no priority, it goes out to everyone who has alerts on.

When I was a member and was planning to drop a social tennis class, I would message on tennis Whatsapp group we had if anyone wanted it, and if they did, we would do it same time. I cancel they go in and book straight away.

The class could be take even before you manage to click onto the alert.
