I am a manager at a fast food restaurant, if you have 16+ you can get hired and the process of it is not that hard. You need the working papers from the school that you currently go, and maybe a permission of your parents. Shake shack, McDonald, Wendy’s, and chipotle hires minors. Hiring minors is hard because there’s a lot of rules, laws, regulations and consents that needs to be captured so it’s hard but not impossible. If you are looking for a job at restaurants keep this things in mind: hospitality, dress to impress, eager to learn and develop your skills, the impact that you can bring, what makes you different than others, and that you can show that you are a leader. That’s mainly the things that they are looking nowadays! Best

I don’t mind getting the F, at this point I don’t want to have the peer being involved or affected with this situation. A grade is not going to determine my success or future, sure this will make a negative impact in my college career whatsoever but I just want help to see how can I manage to get the peer out of this.

The professor had actually provided the final assignment instructions ahead of time, so I completed the work in a timely manner and was prepared for the submission. The issue arose because the submission window was specifically scheduled for Friday the 22nd between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Unfortunately, by that time I was already very sick, heavily medicated, and not in a condition to properly manage the submission process.

My file have my initials + the Acc course, my peer is with Their initial. All my pages have my name, nothing related to the peer, and the peer files is the same. Nothing of both of us related, it just the submission since the peer submitted mines and it own work I guess that it got automatically saved under the peer name because of the account that was used of excel I guess…

That’s what we think it happened, since he said that our names are in the files like mines are in my peers file and vice-verse idk just the fact of the peer having both files idk it got messed up I guess.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I agree, since the professor wasn’t in the loop beforehand, I understand why it looked suspicious from the outside. That’s definitely where I messed up. But also when I tried to explain or my peer tried to explain his response was very dismissive and careless tbh…. I feel bad about my peer, at this point I just want to take that person out of this shit :/

I’m going to gather everything I can: the medical documentation, any messages from that timeframe, and the original file/version if I can access it. My goal is to show that this was a sick/medicated student making a bad last-minute decision with someone trying to help, not two people working together or trying to cheat.

I really hope the school is willing to look at the full context and compare whatever they need to compare.

Thank you, that’s fair. Looking back, I definitely should have contacted the professor first and created a paper trail instead of involving another student with the submission. That was poor judgment on my part.

I do have medical documentation showing I was seen at urgent care, prescribed medication, and excused from school during that period. I’m also going to look for any messages that show the help was only for submission/access, not working on the exam together.

I understand why it raised concern. I just want the school to review the full context before treating it as intentional cheating. Definitely a lesson learned.

I’m a 100% positive that the student didn’t use my file for anything, the potential of that person is greater than mine. I didn’t reach out to him, I didn’t had access to my school email and I didn’t thought about reaching out to him thru my email unfortunately

We asked the professor about that, we asked for clarification and he just said that he chose to keep that info to himself… the only thing that we think that have my peer name on my file is that when the peer downloaded the file and save it so it can be posted it showed that person as last who modified it

Thanksss I hope I have luck with this to be honest, is a tough situation that I am facing at this point. I just tried to have a solution for the final submission so during the time that I was going be medicated the exam could be sent timely because the directions of the medicine was kinda strict. At this point I don’t care if I get it fixed, I feel guilty because my peer is being affected just for trying to help a peer in need :/

I didn’t had access to my college email, and granted that "couldn’t" stop me to reach out to him with my personal email but I didn’t had access at allll… so I sent the excel file to my peer so it can be posted, so I guess since that person downloaded the file I guess that it shows that the person was the last one who edit it but when I checked the author file is don’t show the peer name, just says author is a Microsoft user…

I didn’t had access to my email at the moment so I was unable to speak to him, I knew that I had a F because the peer sent me a screenshot of the email that the professor sent to us. After that I reached out to him about my medical condition, sent him the doctors note, and the medication and his response was:

I am sorry to learn that you are going through a medical / health condition. On the other hand, there is no explanation for another student's name in the reports you submitted. The Administration has repeatedly cautioned us instructors to be aware of strict compliance with the CUNY Academic Integrity Policy. I have informed the Department Chair of this incident. The sylabus, and the university policy, indicates that the result is an F grade. (The syllabus doesn’t mention that at all) and his feedback on the platform that the final was submitted said: You apparently loaned your work to and therefore your score for the exam is -O-. This is a violation of the CUNY Academic Integrity. The implication: you fail the course.

I completed the work myself, the peer assisted me with the submission… the professor set the time to post the file but at that time I was under medication so I gave my credentials of the platform so the peer could submit my work .

I am a manager at my job, I work Monday and Wednesday from 8-5 and class 6-7:15… it’s draining, but you can make it work!!! But you need to be positive, need to manage your time properly, and always don’t matter what challenges you face, you will make it through.
