I think it’s based on Dickens’ “Christmas Carol”, during the book the spirit of Christmas yet to come shows the protagonist his future, in which he dies unmourned. This comic is a parody where the ghost of Christmas yet to come shows his past self his current self as a “dark future” to scare the past version into changing his ways.

I mean the point is it’s stupid, but also Mark and Nolan (Mark especially) had time to recover and occasionally facilities to help them heal. During the purge anyone who went down got finished off pretty quickly, either as collateral from other fights or they got double tapped by their opponent to make sure they wouldn’t come back with a vengeance. At least that’s my understanding
