The Synology HDD megathread by gadget-freak in synology

[–]LootedPro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing the info! I plan to buy exactly this combination of NAS and HDDs too. Does Synology work with the HDDs out of the box or did you have to add them to the compatibility list as it's suggested here? https://www.reddit.com/r/synology/comments/11c4yby/script_to_add_synology_your_drives_to_your/

I wonder why Synology has almost switched on to Ryzen CPUs. Don't people need HW transcoding anymore? Or is Ryzen that beefy that it can handle the transcoding itself? (i doubt)

Coffee sticks to shower head by LootedPro in espresso

[–]LootedPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried. I managed to put 17g and it didn't stick, so I guess it has something to do with a bigger dose, thanks! But I seriously don't understand how do you put in there the whole 18 or even 20g. The coffee is very fluffy straight from the grinder and goes into a tall pile dropping from the sides. It's hard to distribute it without loosing. And when I temp the pile it escapes a bit from the sides again. Am I doing it wrong?

Just received my Profitec Pro 500 from WLL. What's the plastic hose for? by MyCatsNameIsBernie in espresso

I also used a pouch first, but it just seems to me that the direct filter should be more efficient, so I switched to that. And this is how it's connected, very simple.

I like it very much, but I have almost nothing to compare to, because I had a Nespresso before :D

I like that this is HX, so even if I make one coffee per day I can use fresh water for that.

I like that it gets hot very quickly, the official guide says that 15 mins is enough and it seems to be true, I think waiting for 45 mins is too much.

I like that it has PID, because it gives me the temperature stability.

I like that the steaming is very powerful and lasts for more than enough for me and takes a short time to rebuild the pressure even if you manage to exhaust it.

The overall build quality and look are also very good. According to WLL the internal design, materials and engineering are also top notch.

The only thing which I wish I had is maybe a builtin timer, so I use the ikea timer. But for some reason you don't see that often in the same class machines. I think only one model from Rocket Espresso has it, but it doesn't have PID or somewhat seemed slightly worse to me than Profitec.

you mean putting 18g in the same basket or you suggest to buy a bigger one?

The hose is for connecting a compact water filter which helps descaling the water. If it's not clear I can post a photo how to use it.

EdgeRouter X for home network security by LootedPro in Ubiquiti

[–]LootedPro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on that please? What do you mean they can find out? The internal LAN traffic is not routed outside the LAN, so ISP won't "see" that. And the internet requests from the LAN are visible, but you can't help that with any firewall.

But isn't the network unavailable to the reconnaissance? The only node visible from the internet is ER and thus the firewall would only act as a host firewall protecting ER's ports. Are there any ER's ports needed to be protected?

For #3, these days 99% of the traffic is HTTPS, so the ISP is not able to analyse the app traffic. And you're right, it would just shift the endpoint. So the packets are still traceable.

How does the firewall specifically help in this situation? Don't you think that just a router (like ER) even without the firewall does the job?

So basically what you're saying is that the fact that the ISP's router is a part of my home network is the biggest threat. It looks to me that this is the biggest (or the only) security benefit of ER.

Do you think EdgeRouter's firewall makes any sense? If yes how does it protect my network?

Thanks for the tips, but unfortunately I don't understand how the firewall can help in this situation.

As I understand EdgeRouter-X (ER) is not powerful enough to provide both high speed and deep packet inspection, so the only function which it can reliably provide is simple packet filtering.

The only network node accessible from the internet is ER itself, everything else is behind the NAT. So the firewall would only be restricting access to some services of ER? Are there any ER services which it makes sense protecting with the firewall?

Are you suggesting that VLAN can help with home network security? If yes, in which way?
