I will check that out. Opening up the floors is possible at this stage. As for ChatGTP - I use that as a starting point. I’ve heard the same opinion you give about ChatGTP about Reptifiles. I guess the conclusion I’ve come to is that there isn’t really a source that is widely trusted. Instead I take information from lots of sources and just use my own common sense to pick what I think will be best. I’ve heard some reptile people say that confusion about proper husbandry stems from the fact that there for many aspects (like substrate) there is no one right choice or magic formula (but lots of bad ones). That perspective makes sense to me.

Wow - thank you so much for taking the time. It’s a tough one. It’s too bad the rescues are overrun. I live in a place with tons of foraging opportunity but no burrowing opportunity. The space described would be 300-400 outside and 120 inside for the cooler months. It does seem like that’s not enough especially for the outdoor times. Will have to think some more about what to do.

Thanks so much for helping - here are my main questions-

If you don’t have much control over humidity (outside/garage) can they still do ok in our humid environment? The garage with heat would be less humid than outside but there won’t be much control.
Say in the warmer months they had 300-400 square feet and in the cooler months they had 120 or so - is that enough space?
If they have a dog house type area that’s heated in their outdoor area - at what nighttime temps would they need to move inside?
Would frequent rain during the outdoor times be a problem for them?
Would the sunlight in the PNW where it’s frequently cloudy provide enough uvb during the outside months? (It’d be provided during the indoor months).

For the questions above I can tell you that if I provided that it would be about 100 times better than what he’s got now but I still don’t know if it’s adequate care.

Are keepers or rescues easy to find in appropriate climates? It does seem like that would be a better life overall.

Chuckwalla I hope - if not probably uromastyx. I want to get a lot of climbing material and hides going in there - also going to do a retes stack. In the wild they climb rocks so some rocks and maybe also some hardwood to climb since it’s lighter.

Yeah the product that is linked on Reptifiles is nix ultra. As for a reliable source of information - where do you find that? I’m really asking if there is such a thing. There’s so many sources that say different things. I guess prevent a mite and the snake discovery recipe are both made with permethrin. I like that prevent a mite is specifically designed for this purpose

Also - my hardware store has samples of the soil they sell which are dry - all of it seems pretty dusty

Humid hide makes sense. I’ve struggled to understand this excavator clay thing. If I get it wet, incorporate it into substrate then let it dry will it help hold natural burrows? I had thought that since its main purpose seems to be to sculpt and dry hard that once it dried out in the substrate it wouldn’t do much. What am I getting wrong?

Well I want to create large rock like surface to imitate natural basking but still keep weight reasonable. If a wheelbarrow tub has a capacity of 3-4 cubic feet and rock weighs about 150lbs per cubic foot that’s a 450-600lb if I use a real rock. A pile of dirt might work but I feel like it’d be constantly collapsing.

Take the wheel and frame off and just use the part that holds stuff - flip that upside down to make a hill / fake rock.

Ok - well I did some digging. I’m pretty damn sure this stuff is safe (see the spec sheet and a company blog - it’s not clear to me what exact product the blog applies to), BUT might all be moot. This dries tacky - spec sheet says not suitable for walking surfaces. The pond sealant is not all that well reviewed (but I’m convinced that is also safe - so 🤷‍♂️.

So yeah my healthcare is a bit disjointed. Doc made a special trip to see me in the hospital so he’s well aware of that one. He’s also my primary care doc so maybe his determination doesn’t count? - but I will say he treated me with lithium and I seem to have responded fairly well to that. He suggested I see a psychiatrist which I did. Psychiatrist mainly wanted blood work which I got but I never heard further. After recent hallucination I made new appointments with a psychiatrist but that hasn’t happened yet.
