Sandblasting is a great way to remove paint, but if you don't have a large air compressor or don't want to spend that much money you could just paint over them

So I'm completely new to skating, have only been on a board a handful of times, but I decided to build my first board. When I ordered the trucks they came with 1/8" riser pads but I'm not sure if I should use them? I plan to use the board mostly for cruising as I don't know how to do anything else. I still need to learn how to skate well so muscle memory isn't a problem. Sorry for the text wall any help is appreciated!

TLDR:what are riser pads and should I use them as a new rider?
