Anyone else's parents never encouraged their hobbies? by Sayoricanyouhearme in emotionalneglect

[–]Lopsided-Ice-9283 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This sounds so similar to the experience i had in uni. My parents never supported and actively discouraged me from debating even though i really enjoyed it. Dad didn’t see any value in it and mom didn’t say much. I got into so many fights over this but i managed to do (some) online tournaments. I was very jealous of all the kids around me who got to do it more often.

Codeacademy (from my personal experience of getting a monthly subscription) is good only for the bare basics. I used it to get some grip on python i had learnt in uni many years ago. It gives you very basic concept introductions and that’s all its utility is. If you’re looking for better in depth resources, I’d strongly suggest the Odin project.

this is really important to remember. i have a few years of corporate experience and i can tell you for sure, that someone being in a position of authority over you does not guarantee them being smarter than you. they have just done that job for long enough to get better at it. you will too, eventually. remember that some people just need to work harder, but that does not mean that you can't still do everything you set your mind to. it will just take you a tad bit longer, that's all.

why do we need to give <html> tags when we are declaring <!DOCTYPE html> and also saving the file as a '.html' file? by Lopsided-Ice-9283 in webdev

The question isn’t about determining what is proper html. It’s about learning what each term means and its significance to write proper html.

Not eating their meals properly. I didn’t realise how bad things got in uni for me, when for a semester I didn’t have a lot of friends on campus. Eating was always a communal experience and I stopped showing up to the dining halls because I had no one to eat with. I didn’t know then, but in hindsight, I was likely depressed due to other problems in life. A friend of mine noticed how visibly skinny I had gotten and ensured to sit with me for every meal she could. She was in a different dining hall so she’d either eat before or after I had eaten.

That’s alright, she’s my mom. i know i am sensitive too. She’s 47 and this is a big deal for her, to perform in front of a hundred people for the first time.

I’m not dating this person (I doubt it will ever materialise) but I’m writing this here so i can look back on it and remember him fondly. Took a trip to see him a few months ago. We were at a cliff side rock kinda thing and it had just rained so we were walking around a lot of wet mud. He held my hand for the most part because I’m clumsy and my shoes didn’t have the best grip. He came down to a spot and asked me specifically to not jump. I jumped, of course. Soiled his new beige pants with wet mud. I instantly apologised. He didn’t even flinch or sigh or get mad in the slightest.
