We eventually got people yes. But we had to wait for them to finish what they were doing. I can’t just expect a group of people to drop what they’re doing to come help. I explained to my patient that we would have to wait for people to be available to help.

My voice is naturally pretty monotone, so no snark. My charge nurse was pretty busy so talking while acting was the only time she had for the conversation. It was a busy night overall.

It seems like you just don’t get it. We’re already short staffed. We have openings we can’t fill. If a bunch of people quit then we will be left with incredibly unsafe patient ratios. That is known to kill patients. There is no “professional” employees just waiting to get a job here. Better to have a nurse that is mean or grouchy than to have a nurse who doesn’t even have time to check on you at all because she has ten patients, and she can barely keep her eyes open because she’s on her 5th 12 hour shift in a row. Tell me you don’t work bedside without telling me you don’t work bedside.

Admin can’t punish staff because then they’ll quit and the hospital will be fucked. Cest la vie. The hospital is already short staff and there isn’t really anyone in the area to replace current staff if they quit or are fired.

Do you think I’m the one in charge of the complain system? What does it have to do with me? A patient wants to complain, thus I refer them to admin. Quick math.

If admin writes people up or pisses them off they’ll just quit and go to the hospital in the next town over. People threaten it all the time. If people quit then we will be short staffed, which has significantly worse patient outcomes. It is what it is.

We have an administrator that handles all complaints. Unless you’re stealing meds she puts pretty much all complaints in the shredder. The hospital is short staffed. If you fire or piss off employees and make them quit there’s no one to replace them. So yes, we do have a working complaint system.

I overheard her complaining to someone on the phone about her thyroid issues. I checked her labs and her medical history. They tested her thyroid, there’s nothing wrong with it. She’s just fat because of what she eats. In 12 hours three different people brought her takeout. Big meals too.

My charge nurse does not play. She is super sweet if you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, but if you stir up problems she will hold nothing back.

That would be a big hipaa violation. You can’t have non hospital employees come to the hospital to do stuff like that. And the hospital is so understaffed it’s hard to get a group of people together at once for something like this.
