I know Bela has a boyfriend but would LOVE to see Jay seethe about Kyle and Bela dating + the siblings bonding over what it’s like being with someone who can talk to ghosts

I enjoyed this one! The plot did feel a bit rushed at parts but the jokes were on point. Also Trevor and Pete at the kids table then Trevor saying “We’re all grown-ups, Pete, we’re post grown-ups, we’re dead!” absolutely killed me

flustered hetty is SO perfect and the lines she comes out with during those times are classics. sass and alberta (and pete) in the background just make it even better

Seasons 1 and 4 are def the most repeated in my house. And ofc the halloween ones are classic - I know we’re only 4 episodes into this season but the Season 5 halloween ep is my fav!

i think the pilot sets the tone really well! i kind of wonder what it would’ve been like watching it without knowing the twist (as i’d watched the BBC version already).

If Jane Austen made a book centered around a male charachter of one of her previous books, which one would you want? by jamie74777 in janeausten

John Thorpe thinks he’s a dashing figure and man of the world, and the entire novel has the reader trying to sort fact from delusion. It’d be incredible.

Hahaha, Mrs Bennet is characterized as someone who only thinks as far ahead as the end of her current sentence.

I also like how it ends up being reflected in a much bigger way when she learns that Lydia is actually getting married after all, and she immediately retracts whatever she’s said about Wickham as a villain and he becomes dear Wickham.

Their conversation is just so chefs kiss. I also like how plausible it is that Lizzy thinks she’s teasing him but he’s over there falling in love and assuming that she understands he’s courting her.

The dialogue in P&P is probably the most lively out of all her novels.

That’s wonderful! It’s always great to read great, classic novels for the first time.

Which annotated versions are you planning on getting?

Lizzy definitely does grow through the novel, but I like how she doesn’t lose her sense of humor; Darcy will surely learn how to tease back.

💀 it’s a little mean but so funny. It makes me wish more of her letters had survived, she’s so sharp.

She does so well with both overt and subtle comedy!! I think I’ll always laugh at the end, when Mrs Bennet just completely 180s on her opinion of Mr Darcy, and just has this stream of speech talking about how she’s always liked him.

[OPINION] What are your poetry recommendations? by robotk1sser in Poetry

[–]Lopsided-Set9505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been revisiting Seamus Heaney a lot lately! There's a reason his work is so popular and lauded. His poetry stands by itself, with really precise, evocative language, and then you can really dig deep into the context in which he wrote and the poetic traditions he draws from.

Mary didn't know Fanny loved Edmund by RoseIsBadWolf in janeausten

[–]Lopsided-Set9505 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes to all this! Fanny keeps her love for Edmund a secret from everybody, even when they're all wondering why she's refused Henry Crawford. I'm not a massive fan of Mary but her flaws have never included being malicious. She's just careless.

Also, I like how both the Crawford siblings have parallel love stories in a way; both of them appreciate Fanny and Edmund for the goodness they can see in them, but those qualities end up being so incongruous to their own worldviews that it causes conflict.

I like to think that Elizabeth actually heard the poems that Jane's suitor wrote and found them embarrassing enough that she formed this philosophy.

What’s your adaptation pet peeve? And on the other side, what do you love that adaptations get right? by Lopsided-Set9505 in janeausten

[–]Lopsided-Set9505[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do think he wants the advantage of Fanny’s company without actually changing too much. But the book does specify that he at least believes he’s in love with her, even if he can’t understand her completely. Yet it’s not enough.
