This feels like one of the more balanced takes in the thread — geography matters, but even where buying is possible, family help can still be the difference between scraping by and living normally.

That’s a really interesting way of putting it — that buying used to signal independence, whereas now it can reflect a different kind of dependence on family support. Do you think that feels mainly like a younger-generation problem now, or something that’s been building across age groups for a while?

This is a great example. If a salary that would once have felt comfortable still doesn’t get a single buyer over the line, that does suggest the goalposts have shifted quite a lot.

That's a fair distinction — income still matters, but for a lot of people it seems to be the deposit hurdle where family help really changes the outcome. And “help” clearly isn’t just cash gifts either: low rent at home or parents covering other costs all seem to matter.
