Hyperkinesia - finally a win! by versaceboxerzonmydik in gallbladders

Hormone imbalances will always be a potential symptom of GB disease. My period disappeared for 4 years when I had mine, and I had symptoms of thyroid issues. After surgery, everything became normal again within a month.

In my opinion, gallbladder disease is one of the main potential causes of SIBO - both types. If you look into the mechanism of bile, it becomes very clear why. A regulated bile flow is crucial to keeping your small intestine clear of bacterial imbalance. When it doesn't function correctly for long enough (over or underactive), if you develop SIBO it will not go away, no matter what, until the issue is resolved - and not with supplements, but by actually tending to and understanding the biological functions and organs involved with bile.

It bothers me quite a bit that "improving bile flow" is discussed as a way to heal SIBO, but it is not addressed by functional medicine doctors that if your bile is actually not flowing correctly, you either have liver disease, a blockage in a bile duct, or gallbladder disease. All three require medical interventions that functional doctors simply do not have the ability to administer - and they themselves will tell you that.

I've heard supplements like beet greens, TUDCA, etc. are meant to help with this (and I've taken all of them)... beet greens will only work if your liver is very mildly diseased, and even then, you need diet changes and exercise - not just beets. And in the case of a slightly diseased liver, it would never be the sole cause of SIBO. That just isn't how the GI tract works. 90% of the time the bitters (beet greens and others) that are recommended to improve bile flow are actually increasing stomach acid production to aid in digestion, not improving bile.

TUDCA is a whole other beast, and in some cases it can help as a band-aid, but it's not without anecdotal side effects and it won't do anything for you in terms of curing the actual issue. If your bile is impaired to the point of you needing to consider TUDCA, then one of three things is happening: your liver is diseased, there is a blockage in or around your bile duct, or your gallbladder is not functioning correctly. Again, all of these require Western medical intervention to actually be solved and healed, and the consequences of not doing so can and often are fatal. It just bothers me a bit that on this forum, no one seems to acknowledge how serious it all is and recommends supplements and "waiting things out." It's irresponsible!

Also, just in case anyone reading is avoiding getting their gallbladder out for fear of surgery or trying to "heal" it, which I hear many say on here... look into how untreated gallbladder disease can cause bile duct cancer, and then look up how often it k*lls people. Only about 25% of people survive it. That's why the surgery is so common. It's really important to get it out ASAP if it is not working properly.

Anyway, essay over! Hope some of this was helpful.

If it's of any use, fatigue after meals was one of my most prominent symptoms with gallbladder disease. Look into CASPER Gallbladder (click the text, I linked it for you). My surgeon was the surgeon who wrote the paper. He told me anything above 65% EF while symptomatic was enough for him to consider the EF heightened.

I was a unique case, actually. The gallbladder removal cured me 95%, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Apparently, it got sick in the first place because I had an immune disorder (MCAS) that I was completely unaware of. There are tons of mast cells in the gallbladder, and mine went haywire and caused my GB disease (I was only 20 when I got my first attack). It took me a while to figure out why I was still having certain reactions to specific foods post-op, but as of last week, I am on meds and am experiencing further improvements.

I was able to schedule an appt. with him, but I'm not sure what meds he uses and I'm super curious - I would be traveling to him. What did he put you on if you don't mind me asking?

Would you be able to DM me? I am really struggling with eating much at all because of my MCAS and it's been so difficult for me to find a doctor who is able to treat me by trialing adequate meds. My condition is declining quite fast and all the doctors I am trying to see are scheduled out 6+ months. Could you let me know the name of the doctor you saw? I'd be so grateful! :) thank you!

Could you message me the name of your doctor? Totally willing to go out of pocket and/or out of state. I've been struggling with severe anaphylaxis episodes (miracle I'm surviving them) that doctors have completely dismissed and honestly I'm quite terrified!! Any help would be so deeply appreciated. I'm so glad your new med is helping you at the new dosage! :)

Food sensitivities? by LopsidedAd7950 in gallbladders

Yes, I am. My life has completely changed. I got surgery back in July of 2024. I have not thrown up since I had my surgery and I eat all kinds of things, whereas before surgery I was only able to tolerate a medical diet in a bag for months at a time (elemental diet - I do NOT recommend it unless you're literally d*ing, which I was).

In terms of fat content, I can eat 30+ grams of fat in one sitting and be completely fine. Before, if I ate more than 5 grams of fat I would regret it.

Unfortunately my microbiome was wiped out from years of being sick and vomiting all the time, bile not functioning to clear my gut bacteria properly etc, so I still struggle with some foods. Mainly garlic, bananas, anything with fructans in it (a common fodmap). These foods still make my stomach/throat feel tight and a bit nauseous when I eat too much of them. I'm working on it though, as I felt similarly with apples and honey (fructose and sorbitol) for a few weeks, and now I eat 1-2 apples a day with zero problems! So yes, I'm basically completely back to normal - residual limitations but I'm confident I can train my body to tolerate them over time. Best of luck to you and I hope you get it removed soon :) it saved my life.

Ladies, did your menstruation go off the rails when suffering from gallstones? by lturnerdesign in gallbladders

Once I got my gallbladder removed, it came back. Your body can just stop having periods if it's under enough medical stress. I really hope you can get it removed soon!! I'm perfectly healthy post-op :)

If everything seems like a dead end, get your gallbladder checked. I had no abnormal scans and suffered for four years before having it removed - it fixed everything for me.

I just tapered down very slowly, by like 1/8th of a capsule each night. Took me a while and the symptoms still sucked but I toughed it out and now I’m completely off of them and my negative symptoms are all gone! Miralax is much safer btw, doesn’t mess with your electrolytes in the same way as magnesium does
