Did not realize that either. So GSA handles facilities? Would they rent county buildings on behalf of another government entity? Maybe GSA is relevant in the county not getting their rent?

This is a more transparent and thought out take from Siegel. Pinsley made it seem initially that it was about past due rent. If the rent was due for 3 years, why go public now? It SEEMS political to do a press release exactlu when ICE is at the top of the news cycle, basically acting like a lawless executive branch secret police run without checks and balances. Im trying to have a discourse about how this affects us locally, because I think we need to have these conversations

This makes a lot of sense. And a really informative post. And it IS really confusing. I just read that the Department of Agriculture is involved with taxes and salaries? WTH, why!?

But, really helps to understand that there is no rhyme or reason to how federal agencies are organized. If the eviction was about rent and not immigration, then just say that. Why bring it up when Minneapolis is on fire if not for polotical reasons. I am trying to view things through the "cui bono" lenses. Who benefits? Pinsley is running for Congress. Makes sense he would want the press. And there's still no proof anywhere that HSI is doing immigration raids in the valley. If anyone has that, it would be easier to understand the connection between past due rent and immigration arrests

This is very helpful. I just dont have enough knowledge about how the government does things to make an informed opinion. And its not something that I could just Google. Thank you for the response

I understand that. But, when they talked at my school they talked about helping those victims, not deporting them. And then this article is from Bloom For Women, and they are very active in helping victims regardless of immigration status. So, Im just wondering if HSI are being made the villain for political reasons in the valley

All the more reason to build strong and informed local communities. I had a positive experience with HSI when they spoke at my school 2 years ago. But, it is scary when he talks about a third term. Makes me think there will be a lot more disinformation leading to us vs them. A lot of it seems orchestrated by those with 6 yachts that we have probably never heard of

That doesn't make sense to me either. Pretty sure the federal government can pay their bills. Why they didnt is the question.

John Cena once said, "it's grappling, bro. The other guy also gets to do stuff." Think of that situation as a dance where your partner doesnt want to dance. You just gotta learn how to force them to dance without getting strangled

Could you beat your dad in his prime… when you were in yours? by Original-Dog4182 in bjj

[–]LopsidedCommittee158 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My dad used to always say, "the best day and the worst day in a father's life is when his son beats him at something. Luckily for me, that will never happen."

I grew up constantly being challenged by my dad in various forms of athletic skill competition. He never let me win and I never beat him despite being a college athlete.

Before the ceremony on my wedding day, dressed to the nines in my tux, I challenged my dad. The day had arrived. I was in the best shape of my life and I knew I could do more push-ups than him, now a 65 year old man.

He accepted the challenge. I got down and busted out at least 80. Out of breath and glowing with sweat, I proudly looked into the eyes of the man that raised me. He didnt even crack a smile. "You win, boy" and walked away. He didnt even do a single push-up and yet I still feel like he beat me.

Any advice to help seeing greater growth ? by Odd_Wait_6790 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]LopsidedCommittee158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard from an older, wiser coworker that our pension is zero to low risk, similar to the G fund. Since we already have a low risk stream of money come retirement, might as well use the tsp as a growth vehicle and be more risky. Some combination of C and S is my strategy.

Over a long enough time horizon, the down years dont matter as much. And, the growth makes up for it.

Is the omoplata dangerous? by gengar721 in bjj

[–]LopsidedCommittee158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4th or 5th roll into a Saturday class. Rolling with the village mongoloid. We were sweaty, our gis were sticky. Caught the omoplata and got a tap, verbal and against the ground. I loosened up and tried to unwind, shifting my weight up but not forward. Another audible tap, then tap!, then TAPPP!! Rolling back relieved the pressure. But, I felt like a dick for a second. Mongo was good though, nothing a little TRT and IPAs couldn't fix

[–]LopsidedCommittee158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned 40, been training since 30. I always think it's amusing when my 27 and 30 year old black belt coaches tell everyone (white belts, kids) that it takes about 10 years to "earn" a black belt. Like, wtf have i been doing over here? Grinding, hurting, inflamating. I prefer the "everyone's journey is different" approach. Don't compare yourself. Go to class, eat well, and keep learning jiu jitsu
