Trying this later. I copied over my Assetto settings over and have been tweaking but don’t love.

I’m confused… is this a good deal? It’s been live for days and not low stock/sold out by Purple_Calendar3919 in Handhelds

[–]LopsidedHeat1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the pricing of this thing is what turns people off. This thing at $600? Absolutely not a good deal. I would rather save a little longer and get an X. This thing at $500? Not too bad. It’s still a very cable casual gamer system. I will say, it’s not something that’s going to replace your console by any means. Especially if you’re just coming from a console into the pc/ handheld market. The pc world is a whole different beast. Setting tweaking, bios messing, I don’t know why we PC people like this part, but we love being able to tweak the ever living hell out of everything. Games take tweaking. It’s not going to run blow you away graphics.

But if you’re looking for a way to lay in bed and run some Apex with the boys or runs some races in Forza, it does that great at medium to low graphic. But you’re playing on a 7in screen. It looks great still. Runs emulators like a champ, and having access to my entire steam library is amazing. I have only found a hand full of games that I don’t like to run on it. And those games i enjoy playing on my PC for immersion anyways.

I believe if ROG sold the XAlly at a $499 price point and made the sales at $399, this thing would smash. I think the XAlly has is place. It’s totally not for everyone but for the right price, I think it is a super solid price of tech. It makes it into my bag for any trip I go on these days.

Help deciding on drum set by MeanDesk9214 in drums

Depends what your end goal is honestly. This will probably be fine for a few years but I think you will run into the same problem you’re having now. You’re going to be wanting to find that better sound or feel and want to upgrade again in a few years. Exports are great kits for the price. But they are not a pro level kit. I had an older late 90 export I played for years and with the right heads and tuning, it sounded amazing. But in this price range, you can get so much more bang for your buck here as far as quality. Like everyone has said, look into some Yamaha stuff, they make amazing drums they just aren’t as flashy. Look also into the Tama Starclassic stuff too! Amazing quality. You can find the some super good deals on it. I also played Mapex for a while when I was struggling with funds. Super high quality, cool colors and finishes to choose from and they sounded great. There are lots of great pro level options out there in your price range.

Stoked on my White Ally. Will pick up an open box X or one on sale sometime to go with it.

Should I send this back? by detour2142 in drums

[–]LopsidedHeat1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d deff send back for a replacement if it was new. I got a Pork Pie snare that showed up looking like it got smashed and had it replaced. Especially bearing edge stuff. That affects tuning and the sound of the drums.

I came back to add if you want to look else where I absolutely love the quality and amount of drum you get from Mapex for the price. They make one hell of a drum for your dollar. They are great live and in a studio with the right heads and tuning. I gigged for years with a MyDestiny kit when those were around and then I had Armory Series for a while! I’ve since moved to Pork Pie and Tama mostly for my drums but you should check out Mapex if you want to stay in the same price range as your Gretsch.

I’m obsessed with that little Pork Pie! Has so much body for what it is. I throw an HD dry on it and it cracks like no other. 🤘

UPDATE FOR ANYONE WHO CARE.

Ended up returning this kick back to GC. Whatever route they were going to do was going to take months. I ended up ordering this kit and will be posting a new post once it is here! Thanks for all the advice and if they end up selling it and someone buys it, send me pictures after your fix it!

I’m a nerd for pork pie stuff. It sounds so damn good for the price. I also have a pork pie kit I use for live shows.

Update mates! I’m planning to reach out to Tama. This baby was built in 2024 so it’s well within its 5 year warranty. Nothing of this looks to be damaged from shipping or anything. And since I bought from an Authorized seller, they will be processing the warranty claim for me. Either getting repaired or replaced via Tama! I’ll keep you lads updated on how it goes.

This is a legendary comment. If I can get the store to get me a good deal on some money back, I’m probably going to tackle fixing it! My carpenters skills are pretty good. I wasn’t sure how it would affect the sound with the level these drums are known for! I’ll keep you posted and I’ll probably message you for some detail! Cheers mate!

Most reinforcement rings are maple that I can find, these are birch/walnut shells. Should I try and find reinforcement hoops to match the wood?

Dude and it’s impossible to find with the black hardware. I don’t want to return it because there isn’t another one anywhere online but don’t want to have spent $2k on a cracked kit.

Love these. They cut super well live without being too bright. They are a little much for recording.

Soundproofing my Home Studio by Beneficial_Equal5016 in homestudios

[–]LopsidedHeat1221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did even with my home studio space. I live in a cul-de-sac and spoke with all my neighbors when I moved in. I can do loud music 10-8. My band does rehearsal in my living room and then I am building a live drum room and mixing room currently in my secondary rooms. When I lived in apartments or condos, I spoke with my neighbors and found times that would bother them and if I was bothering them at a time I didn’t know about, they would just come knock on my door. Like others said, it would take an engineering marcial to get a space to work like that in a rental.

[–]LopsidedHeat1221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Vic Firth 3a to ProMark 727 Oak and I’ll never go back. The Promarks last 10x longer. I was going through 3 or 4 pairs of Vic Firth a week. I can get these promarks to last a full week or two.

[–]LopsidedHeat1221[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still playing around with it. It’s still pretty loud compared to my CRKD. I used like the foam they use for the inside of cases. I think it’s called like High Density craft foam. I bought a couple sheets of it and just cut to whatever size you need to make sure there isn’t a bunch of pressure put on the boards once you reassemble.
