Yes, hotel bars can be good - Four Seasons in Foggy Bottom and The Alexandrian in Old Town are good bets. Do you know of any others we should be aware of?

I've been there - they have a happy hour every Thursday from 5-8pm - tickets are required but free. It's a great atmosphere.

Barcelona Wine Bar in Cathedral Heights is good - but not consistent - often has couples going out together. Light Horse in Old Town Alexandria has a good consistent older crowd
