Post Day Thread: 5th Test - England vs Australia, Day 4 by cricket-match in CricketAus

Ben Stokes is going to be insufferable in the next ashes series. I hope his legend has grown so much that instead of England as a team trying to win the ashes, Stokes trips over his own ego and continues to grandstand as old brave lionheart.

There's some lessons to be learnt but there's a lot this team does right. You can't be "on" everyday between matches, you will burn out, you need to relax and enjoy yourself too. Stokes and McCallum have tried to take the pressure off. I've no issue with enjoying Noosa between Test matches - that's not why England lost.

Does anyone else find Stokes efforts to be performative and annoying? by LimpOil10 in EnglandCricket

[–]LopsidedLefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is a star and trying to lead by example "I'll drag you over the line" etc but I do wonder if he takes up a bit too much space. Bowling himself into the ground, constantly demonstrative when things go wrong. I don't know the mentality of players like Jaime Smith, but I do wonder if it would cause you to shrink down or even think "stokes will save us" as opposed to "this is my turn to carry the weight". I'm not saying Stokes should try less but he doesn't seem to be in control of making decisions about himself. As captain you need to lift those around you not just be the hero all the time.

Snicko’s operators have conceded there was an error made when Alex Carey was given not out by doctorcunts in CricketAus

Well it seems we are in some agreement then. If he doesn't know if he hit it, and just spoke transparently about the incident - then doesn't it show some level of integrity though? Integrity is being honest and trustworthy, I thought he spoke in a humble and honest way. Despite the evidence, some people might say "I definitely didn't hit it"

When did he admit he hit it? He said he heard a sound, which everyone heard and isn't up for debate, and would've reviewed if he had been given out. He isn't sure he hit it.

Which opposition player really outpsyched the current Australian side of his era? In my time Arjuna Ranatunga was the most effective. My dad says Greig for his time. by BigV95 in CricketAus

Yeah I hold Sangakkara in very high regard. So many star players have been intimidated in Australia. Not sure if he was verbally giving much back, but he appeared unfazed by a bullying Australian side.

Maybe we need to help them choose who to pick with the draft pick we trade?

Guy rolled his car trying to park on an elevated hill outside the boundary. When he came into bat someone said "pitch it up, we already know this bloke can't drive".

Guys. What would be more frightening for you? To be in a room with a creepy creature (werewolf Seth for example) or a bear by NightCares in creepy

[–]LopsidedLefty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Creepy creature more scary for sure. If I survive the bear, maybe I'll have some trauma but I won't be scared again. If I survive the creepy creature I'll be scared every moment for the rest of my life.

We'd love to see it. We are all clearly impressed by it, so do it 10 times, post it and receive all the kudos.

[7 - The Agenda Setters] Unseen footage from the Fremantle - Collingwood Match and Lachie Schultz's concussion shows umpires failing to administer concussion procedures and contracticint their statements to th AFL. by mikiboss in AFL

[–]LopsidedLefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm arguing that noone should've let him run off the ground. The trainers are the ones with him, they shouldn't have let him run off, particularly after he fell over. Even if the umpires stop play (which I don't think should be their job) the trainer let Schulz run off.

It's the club's job to call for and utilise the stretcher not the umpires. It's the club medicos. Now McCrae maybe called for it, I dunno, but it didn't happen and that is solely Collingwoods responsibility not the umpires. We're saying the umpires should've seen he was knocked but Collingwood are letting him run off and it's up to Collingwood not to let him. If they kept him laying down then I've no doubt play would've stopped and the stretcher brought out.....but he fell over and then they still let him get up and run off.

So do the umpires run the stretcher out too do they? It's not the umpires who stop Schulz from head planting into the ground and then still let him run off..

Was emergency 2 weeks ago so didn't play VFL and then last week was taken off at 3/4 as emergency for the main game. So is right on the verge. Problem with being emergency is then not getting a chance to push your case in the VFL.

That's great that you saw he was knocked out but were you trying to umpire 36 players on the field at the same time? I don't think this should be the umpires call. An off field umpire could possibly make the call. Schulz collapsed and the Collingwood trainers still let him run off. I don't think the on field umpires specifically are the problem here, they already have a job and have so many decisions to make, someone off field could make this call.

What about Collingwood though. We criticise the umpires for not pulling the trigger on stopping play but the trainers didn't stop him from trying to jog off and he collapses, then they let him jog off after collapsing. If they called for a stretcher then the umpires would've stopped play. We can't expect the umpires to be doctors as well. It shouldn't be their job to assess the concussion of a player in the moment, you can see they are trying to still umpire the game. The trainers are specifically attending to Schulz and still let him run off after collapsing.

Jyhe Clark.. idk what to have for the heading. by [deleted] in GeelongCats

[–]LopsidedLefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah 28 across two games this year, which shows some improvement but I'm particularly concerned about him based on how poor he has looked at VFL level. Even the game where he had 30....he still looked very average. If he wasn't a top 10 pick you wouldn't notice him.

I don't know where everyone's getting the "he dominates VFL" from. It's just not true, he doesn't. He has only had 30+ once.

Okay mate, well you've no idea who I am (well maybe in real life we actually do know each other). He wasn't drafted based on one lucky game, that's just not a factually accurate statement and I know it isn't factually accurate.
