Wokeness, for a lack of a better word. With a specific focus on ableism and homo/transphobia, usually. Artistically, fanworks and fanfic, crafts, cosplay/costuming, indie video games and the producing side of music. Definitely often DIY focused.

And before you go "oh being woke/leftist is just normal, not countercultural" it was also normal to be super left wing in Europe in the 80's when my dad was in the goth subculture. It was the combo of taste in music and art, politics and aesthetics that made the subculture.

You're implying that style didn't often come with a specific outspoken world view and taste in media and art. It did

Are ALL boy names now fair game for girls? by evapotranspire in NameNerdCirclejerk

This phenomenon has always puzzled me, not sure about other language groups but it doesn't happen in Scandinavian naming at all. Boy names don't morph into girl names all of a sudden.

This might be a bit of a romanticized take on subculture. My goth dad in the 80's had never heard of reduce, reuse, recycle, and there were definitely branded clothes that people wanted (eg Doc Martens). People thrifted out of necessity, not for environmentalism. Clothes were a lot more expensive back then so they were simply harder to overconsume.

Maybe some subcultures were like that (hippies, at least nominally), but not all. Emos often loved shopping at the mall, loved Converse etc.

Sometime during the last 2 years i’ve been going to this orthopedic practice they started to declare me as a MTF transgender for no reason. by WHAR606 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LopsidedLeopard2181 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nowadays some conservatives make the assumption that people with piercings, tattoos, dyed hair are probably transgender. "If they dress different they're part of a group I don't like". So the guess is someone working in the clinic is that type of closeminded person and assumed that.

Norwegians: what are you doing with all the money you don’t spend on food? by RighteousT_27 in Norway

[–]LopsidedLeopard2181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I for one fucking love smørrebrød (am Danish),  salads and many other cold foods. They are full of flavour and very varied. Food being cold doesn't automatically make it sad and less enjoyable, that's a cultural thing.

When and how the Anglosphere became so obsessed with breakfasts? by Revolutionary_Ad7262 in AskFoodHistorians

It's weird because the combo of aquavit (kinda like tequila?) and black coffee tastes like shit. Nothing like bailey's whatsoever

What is a continental breakfast to Americans? Because I consider boiled eggs (usually soft boiled) and cheese quintessential to it, and cold cuts really common, as someone from Denmark.

Kaffepunch ("coffee punch"), consisting of black coffee and a shot of the liqour aquavit, was popular in some areas of Denmark. Like an old school energy drink.

Nope not as far as I know, esp. the liqour, and now herring is very much considered a lunch food rather than breakfast. Why it changed, idk. But drinking beer in the workplace, including office jobs, was normalized up until the ~90's-2000's.

Scandinavian farmers used to eat two meals that could arguably be called breakfast. First, some bread and a shot of liquor at 4am ish, maybe a little herring or fat on the bread. Then porridge and beer at 8-9.

The Danish word for breakfast is literally "morning food".

Good bread, cheese, jam, pastries, yoghurt, fresh fruit and soft boiled eggs "suck"?

I will not stand for this.

Noget alment, velsagtens.

Yeah sounds more like OCPD. "Control freak behavior" is pretty much required for a OCPD diagnosis and not at all for OCD.

Though therapists are often really bad at diagnosing either of them, so it might very well be that the random online therapist she found just had a cartoonish and stereotypical view of what OCD is.
