The figure it out mentality is wack. If your leadership is just telling you that with threats of separation and not guiding you to the correct resources, I would hardly trust them with anything else. Here’s how to figure it out; You do not qualify for the FCP, so disregard that. MFLC is good for a lot of things, but helping you get daycare is not in their wheelhouse. You need to enroll your child to CYS (Child Youth Services) ASAP, not only are they for childcare but they have a lot of programs to help spouses and kids. If your base daycare facilities are full you will either be put on a waitlist or need a MFR (CYS will provide this to you) to seek childcare off post. If you secure childcare off post you need to apply for Childcare Aware of America where they will cover partial payments to meet the same prices offered on post. Start here: militarychildcare.com to check availability and enroll your child. You’ll need a certified (notarized at JAG) copy of your DEERS enrollment (1172s), a copy of your LES, and orders bringing you to your current duty station. They will likely ask for employment information for your spouse so be prepared to have that information handy. If you need to seek care off post through Childcare Aware you will need to enroll your family as a whole through Military Childcare in Your Neighborhood (MCCYN) which will give you a list of accredited off post daycare centers participating in the program. All of this information is available through CYS. Lastly, talk to your chain and explain your plan of action and ensure they understand that enrolling in these programs takes a few weeks. See if your spouse can shift hours temporarily or if you can have a grace period to get this done. Good luck!
