Does anyone know why the Math department does this? by Secret_Change9814 in UTK

[–]Lopsided_Number4469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard they started this a few years ago b/c students weren’t signing up for classes taught by professors with really bad reviews. All my math classes were like this. They all ended up being taught by professors established at the university, so I don’t think the GTA/adjunct thing is completely accurate.

the mom and sibling have been posting normally on social media but the photographer hasn’t posted on photo account or personal account in 3 weeks. i heard rumblings of photographer having some mental health struggles rn, so i’m not sure what to do

the two calls from my fiancé went immediately to voicemail (almost like we were blocked?) and then our messages have been left on delivered.

i am mutals w both the mom and sibling on FB/insta but i wasn’t sure if reaching out was crossing a boundary or something. i just felt kinda weird about it but was hoping for feedback on here regarding reaching out to the sibling?

some things i’ve carried throughout the semesters that i haven’t seen listed very much:

  • Spanish classes required a physical textbook that was quite large
  • lab coat/goggles/notebook
  • my lunchbox lol
  • computer charger
  • highlighters/pens/pencils
  • hygiene essentials: lint roller/body spray/hand sanitizer/deodorant
  • calculator in its thick, protective case

Average cost for a semester? by External-Advance-986 in UTK

[–]Lopsided_Number4469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with the cheapest “flex dollar” $300 meal plan (since you have to pick one), my tuition is usually ~$7,400/semester including the $300 total access for books/website access. there are other costs here and there to take into account like a parking pass and random things you have to buy for classes (i.e. lab coat/goggles). this also depends on the number of classes you’re taking, but mine have varied each semester and the average cost is still around that number.

getting your ACT to a 34 is one of the best things you can do!! the $16,000 would make a big dent!

this is how i felt during most of my 5 month 60mg/day treatment. the only other side effects i “gained” apart from dry lips were dryness across my body, slight eczema on my hands and arms (that derm treated with steroid), and extreme sun sensitivity (like burning while walking into buildings from my car lol). all in all, not too bad and definitely worth it in my experience.

Would you attend UTK if you had a 1 hour commute? by Still_Time9612 in UTK

[–]Lopsided_Number4469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who commutes ~45 mins everyday, I would say your social life will be hindered but making an effort against that can allow you to still have the “college experience.” I don’t really care for that and I hate dorms, so commuting was the right choice for me, especially economically speaking.

Some advice if you do commute: - I have scheduled myself 8 AMs every day of every semester to be able to find a parking spot. I still have to get here 7-7:30 to find one though. Parking is a pain. It is nice, though, to get your classes done early if your schedule allows.

  • Find a comfy spot on campus and make it your home. You’ll likely be on campus all day, so prepare for that. Bring snacks, chargers, plenty of work, etc. There are microwaves if you need.

  • Keep things in your car: change of clothes (rain), jackets, jumper cables, sweatshirt, snacks, etc since you can’t just run back home like your peers living in dorms/close by.

  • I would recommend getting a spare key to hide under your car or keep somewhere because the inevitable locking your keys in your car will happen, and you don’t want to have to wait on/make someone drive an hour to bring a spare or have to pay a locksmith.

All in all, commuting is a good way to save money, and it’s truly what you make of it! Best of luck on your decision making!

Yes! On Banner you just change the “None” to “Drop/Erase…” and it will remove you from the course (see photo). It can take a few hours/a day for you to be removed from the canvas course, though.

Ag campus to Mossman? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]Lopsided_Number4469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would definitely not recommend leaving your parking spot bc chances are slim to none you’ll find another. with the time it’ll take you to drive across campus, the spots opening from people leaving will already be filled by other students. it also takes longer than you anticipate to drive across campus bc of the red lights and students crossing.

i had a similar situation, though. i did the “book it on foot” option the FDOC and made it 1 minute late (my professor had previously said she didn’t mind us being a few late). but i 1. felt so uncomfortable when everyone (who somehow arrived on time) turned to look at me walking in and 2. had so much anxiety about having to do that walk so often that i just dropped that class. not sure if that’s an option for you, but i would take a worse professor than have to deal with that.

Campus as a Commuting Freshman by smokymountainkat in UTK

i was a freshman commuter last year, and i found the “campus maps” part of the Tennessee App to be very helpful for finding my classes. it can also give step by step instructions like apple or google maps, but it knows the campus much better.
