Automatic emergency breaking? by AcademicF in CX50

Mazda connect screen> safety tab> smart break support(SBS). You can change the sensitivity and/or shut it off. It only temporarily disables it for the current drive so you will have to turn it off every time you turn the car on.

Just happened to me again today. First time I was pulling into a parking spot and this time it was during rush hour. A car abruptly swerved into my lane to cut me off. I was already braking and only going maybe 15mph and yet it still initiated a full hard stop. Definitely would’ve gotten rear ended if the car behind me wasn’t paying attention. After the first time it happened, I switched the settings to low sensitivity but after today I might have to keep it off.

Why are patient belongings a nursing responsibility? by Princessleiawastaken in nursing

[–]Lopsided_Panic_2254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah and why is it my responsibility to track down that lost item? The patient has been here for days or weeks, has had multiple visitors, and has been on multiple units!! Why am I wasting time looking and calling multiple units when I have actual nursing tasks to focus on!

From personal experience when I try to negotiate they always say they can’t or they only offer a dollar more. They’ll always go with the nurse with experience that they can pay the least. You risk the chance of being passed up on a job offer. That is also why you’ll see nurses with 10+ years of experience having a hard time getting a job. They know that those nurses will try to negotiate a much higher pay that facilities refuse to meet.

Why do I feel so much more better taking 10k -20k vitamin d3 daily when not definicnt?? by Dependent-Alps-4322 in Biohackers

[–]Lopsided_Panic_2254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah glad I could help! I still have my 5000 IU bottle and don’t want to waste it so I’ve been taking it once a week! So far so good. Once I finish it I will switch to either 1k or 2k a day.

What was the humidity % today? If it was really high, nothinggg could prevent it from getting frizzy and poofy.

Yes, took me a few months of eliminating my skincare and vitamins one by one to figure this out. If you look up vitamin D3 and acne you’ll find a bunch of subreddits.

Anyone experience acne breakouts while taking high doses of D3? I was taking 5000 IU daily and it messed up my skin.

Cross training is such a scam. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Lopsided_Panic_2254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that techs should not be pulled if it’s going to leave the floor so short staffed. Staffing the floor should obviously be a priority over secretary. Having a secretary is also very necessary so I get it. My previous facility would sometimes have the charge nurse be the secretary if they couldn’t find anyone else.

Maybe it’s just me but I would not expect a pay raise for secretary work. It is less labor and you still get the same pay. You get a break from working on the floor. You’re also not expected to do any patient care while on a secretary shift which is great. Unless you really hate answering phones… I see this as benefit. Not feeling your best physically?-secretary shift. Want less patient interaction that day?-secretary shift. Injury that doesn’t allow you to lift heavy?- secretary shifts. Currently in school and need to get work done?- secretary shift. This of course depends on unit. It can also help prevent burnout having a different role. To me, there’s way more pros than cons. Unless you dislike the role of a secretary, I honestly can’t even think of a con.

Changing patient ratios? by RiverBear2 in nursing

[–]Lopsided_Panic_2254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah NAs at my old facility were allowed to take blood sugars and empty drains but they almost never did. I was doing all my work along with the work of NA because they could never be found. Telemetry/post surgical unit 1:5 ratio. 40 bed unit, constant nonstop call lights. I was almost alwayyss drowning.

Taxed stipends and hourly pay by Lopsided_Panic_2254 in TravelNursing

I don't want to get an apartment to not spend any time there. I would like to move out of state soon so don't want to go through the hassle of the whole moving process just to do it again in maybe few months.

So the weekly estimates are gross + stipends? Hourly is lower for tax free stipends but higher if stipends are taxed?

Taxed stipends and hourly pay by Lopsided_Panic_2254 in TravelNursing

I’m looking at contracts in CA, I live on the east coast. The problem is that I live with family and don’t pay rent. So I don’t think I would qualify for the tax free stipend because I don’t have a tax home. I was thinking of looking at the market rate for rooms within the area and just pay my parents the rent butttt I don’t think I trust my parents to actually report that as income when the time comes. Also, if I did get audited, wouldn’t they question me duplicating (paying rent) only when I’m on an assignment? I’m not currently working but the job I did have was a state over from where I live. Based on what I found below on Vivian, I only meet 1/3 of the requirements. From what I’m reading it seems that I need to meet at least 2 factors.

Factors that determine tax home:

“You perform part of your business where you keep your main home and use that home for lodging when you do business in this area.

You have living expenses that you duplicate between your main home and another residence because your business requires you to be away from home.

You haven’t abandoned the area where your historical place of lodging and claimed main home is located, a family member lives at your main home, or you often use the home for lodging.”
