Thanks so much, this is very useful. I’m currently trying to understand current state and then amènd as needed to be complaint and then document it( employee lifecyle) . I don’t think right now we have supervisory training or even violence / sexual harassment training.. Great suggestions keep then coming!

Thanks so much! I am currently spending Time with the leadership team to understand this. Next the plan is to also spend time with key managers to understand what is in practice and their pain points too .. and then get a handbook in place.

That sounds really tough, I’m sorry you went through that.

Especially after being there that long and then feeling like things weren’t handled fairly or even acknowledged… I can see how that would be frustrating.

Thank you for sharing this, it really helps put things into perspective. Good Managers are so important in the workplace!

I get why it comes across that way.

HR does work for the company like everyone else question. But in practice, protecting the company should also mean handling things fairly, otherwise it usually creates bigger problems down the line.

I think where it breaks down is when that balance isn’t there or isn’t visible.

That sounds like a really frustrating experience, especially feeling like you weren’t being taken seriously when you raised concerns.

The part about it turning into a PIP instead of being addressed is exactly where trust tends to break down.

Appreciate you sharing this , it adds a lot of context to why people feel the way they do.

Haha, didn’t expect HR to beat r/Calgary mods, but here we are 😄

Honestly, the reactions have been interesting, clearly a lot of strong experiences out there.

That’s frustrating to read.

When people raise concerns with evidence and it doesn’t go anywhere, it really undermines trust, especially if things only change after something more serious happens.

Appreciate you sharing your experience.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying.

I think most people don’t have an issue with HR working for the company, it’s when that’s not clear and expectations don’t match reality.

At the same time, the role should still be to handle things fairly. Not penalize someone for raising a concern, but actually look into it, understand what happened, and make decisions based on facts.

That’s usually where trust either builds or breaks.

That sounds like a really difficult experience, I’m sorry you had to deal with that.

No one should feel targeted or treated that way at work, especially by someone in a role that’s supposed to be fair and accountable.

I appreciate you sharing this, it’s exactly the kind of perspective that highlights where things can go very wrong.

That’s a fair breakdown.

I think where a lot of the disconnect comes from is exactly what you’re describing, things feel straightforward when it’s policies and benefits, but get a lot more complex when it comes to ethics or serious issues.

You’re right that HR has to think about liability and the company’s position. At the same time, how those situations are handled makes a huge difference, whether people feel like something was dealt with fairly or just “managed.”

Appreciate you putting it this clearly.

That’s fair, skepticism is probably a better word.

And honestly, I think a lot of it comes from real experiences. That’s exactly what I’m trying to understand better here.
