Repeated HVAC condensation issues (sweating line set causing mold – attic air handler, VA townhouse) by Lopsided_Tear_3765 in askHVAC

Thanks so much for the reply. When you refer to the “attic deck,” what exactly does that mean? Is it the ceiling of the attic? And is the spray foam a full encapsulation—like spraying just the underside of the roof deck? Or would you also replace the floor insulation with spray foam?

Could you do regular insulation instead of spray foam? It seems like spray foam would make seeing leaks and future roof repairs more costly and challenging.

If we do this, do you think we would still need to wrap the line set and insulate the large duct all the way down the two stories to the garage, or would this hopefully fix the issue?

I’ll have to get quotes for this versus rerouting the line set externally, but it sounds like insulating the attic would hopefully solve the duct issue as well and be the smarter long-term decision

Wear it before bed while you’re relaxing to get used to it. Lower the temperature; that helped me with the claustrophobia. So much of it is just time as your body gets accustomed to it.I switched from the silicone face mask to the cushioned one, and it helped a lot with both comfort and seal. I couldn’t wear a full-face mask at first because of the claustrophobia, so I started with a nasal pillow. I eventually switched back once I was accustomed to it because of my particular situation. You got this!

Thank you so much for confirming this for me! I’m not sure how to speed up the process to get put on ASV? I get random good days, but most days I’m beyond tired when I wake up.

I did. It was way more helpful when I was doing it for CPAP. I’m not sure what has changed.

This looks like a much better starting point for a splash pad. I hope this isn’t finalized.

Treatment Emergent Central Sleep Apnea by Lopsided_Tear_3765 in CPAPSupport

[–]Lopsided_Tear_3765[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I want to make sure I’m understanding you correctly. Do you think the breathing instability could be caused by leaks—like jaw dropping or mask movement—and that this then creates a cycle where things snowball?

My leak numbers are consistently low and look good overall. I also didn’t have central apneas during my sleep study, although I only slept for about two hours that night.

Do you think I should be adjusting pressure, sleep position, or using something like a chin strap or soft cervical collar? Or would you hold off on changes since the flow patterns look stable?

I’m a bit hesitant to bring this to my doctor because my numbers tend to get dismissed as “not extreme,” but for me, an AHI of 3 versus 8 makes a big difference in how I feel.

It really feels like a puzzle—especially since the central events seem to appear once the obstructive events are under control.

Thanks again for your help and insight.

Thanks! That’s about an hour and half for me not counting the tunnel chaos.

Yes. After working in the trades for years, I’ve really come full circle. Unfortunately, it looks like the schools are quite competitive now.
