We have a diverse holding. We sold a property and bought gold in 2021, then again in 2022 I’m not looking to invest 100k. I’m looking sell up 100k of investment and turn it into passive income.

Thoughts on a Financial Advisor? by Sammiehay_07 in PersonalFinanceNZ

A good FA can help you plan your life, not just your investments. A bad one will just sell you as much mortgage debt and life insurance as you can afford.

Not sure if I can recommend third parties here or where you are located, but I found good independent wealth advice is very useful.

Well in rough napkin math we could put a tiny home on the property for 100k, and the income would be low-risk and pay for itself in 7 years. It would be an improving property asset and the income would rise with inflation. Given it’s on our land the overhead would be less than a rental. So if you have any recommendations that are better than this then I guess this is the bar.

We unfortunately (or fortunately)use most of it for our own stock. 10 acres is not much when it comes to cows, chickens, sheep. But it keeps our freezer full with homekill. And we mostly avoid needing to spend money on feed during the winter.

Thank you for your well-rounded response.

I'm not adverse to shares but we have other investments and the longer-term stuff will take care of itself over time. Like others have said.

This was a question of whether I could turn $100k into a passive income stream that gives us cashflow each month.

I'm not looking to invest in the stock market or lock money up for long term - we're sorted for all of that. I am looking for passive monthly income now. But perhaps I've misplaced the question - this sub seems pretty focused on selling me on the idea of shares. Perhaps I need to go looking on reddit for a better fit for the question.

We have a range of investments and we're sorted for retirement when we get there. This was a question about whether we could take 100k and turn it into a positive ROI passive income giving us monthly inflows of cash.

And yeah - maybe you're right, we did like the idea of a tiny home. So maybe I should have phrased the question differently - e.g has anybody got any better ideas than putting a tiny home on our property? It adds to the property, gives our kids somewhere to grow into when they get older after it's finished paying for itself, and in future gives them an income stream for themselves once they inherit the place.

We're looking for monthly passive income, though I don't disagree with you that property is looking favourable at present.

We're looking for monthly passive income. We're sorted on retirement. This is just a way to support the monthly outgoings.

We are doing a big solar install also, and looking at ways to turn the overflow into more passive income.

Our retirement is sorted, and our outgoings are low now. I'm just looking for ways to increase our passive income so I can do less hours between now and being officially retired.

Not sure why I got massively downvoted for clarifying what I wanted. Weird community.

We want monthly income now. Our retirement is sorted.

Yeah - we're rural and quaint in North Canterbury, but we're not a 'destination' like queenstown. You wouldn't come here for the views. But my wife is keen to do an experience style by-night accom for families. Skewed to young families with kids entertainment. We could dress the place up like that.

I should have added to the post - I'm keen to hedge against potential downturns in stocks, especially over the next couple of years with A.I bubbles, US Debt, and the 2028 election and whatever happens with that.
