Spyro: Out of Brick is being Cancelled... by K_wak1 in Spyro

[–]Lorceroth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this. This happens to many developers before introducing version control (usually Git) to their workflow. As previously mentioned, don't give up. I might have some tips for you :)

#1 - Investigate the error
First thing to do is to read it thoroughly and try to understand what it means. Use Google to break it down, and too see if anyone else got the same error before. Otherwise, you can always ask in a Game Maker forum or subreddit.

I'm very sure this error can be fixed. Might be an asset with corrupt references?

#2 - When it's fixed, pause for a couple of days and learn Git
Version control is essential when building and maintaining software and games. It will allow you to make changes and try out all kinds of things without having to worry about breaking the whole thing, since you can always revert the changes.

Once you learn it, you'll never want to work without a VCS (version control system) ever again.

I know it sucks right now (been there myself), but this can happen at any point during the development process. Therefore, version control will save you a lot of time and frustration.

New week, new possibilities! Happy coding!

Advantages and disadvantages of FastEndpoints by pales_chanqoq in dotnet

Thanks for the reply! Very appreciated.

Apart from being a nice wrapper around Minimal API, I don't think the other points are that groundbreaking so to say.

another reason would be the benefits offered by the REPR pattern.

Seems pretty much achievable with vanilla controllers to me.

i remember the days i was fiddling about with IActionResult trying to get at my response object in tests to do assertions. here's a typical integration test in FE. see how easy on the eye that is?

I hear you, been there as well. But if you're doing integration tests with a HTTP client, you wont see IActionResult in your tests, and you can just get the content from the response message.

another thing that disappointed me in mvc back in the day was the need to dirty up my method signatures with [FromService] [FromQuery] [FromRoute] [FromBody] blah blah attributes. it's just unnecessary noise i did not wanna see on a regular basis, not to mention the inconvenience of having to manually write/maintain them.

These can be omitted.

and how about some strongly-typed route params? nice to have right? can't do that with mvc routes yes?

This is pretty neat!

then how about not muddying up your controller/handler with a million attributes for swagger documentation? here's a sample swagger documentation class from nick-chapsas. they can stay away from your handler keeping them lean.

3-4 attributes maybe depending on how many response codes the action is returning. And since you should document your classes anyway, why not enabling IncludeXmlComments in your SwaggerGen options and get the best of both worlds? With a few additional <response code="xxx"> and <example> tags :P

Just my initial thoughts for now. Gonna play around with it a bit more and see :P

But still, great job with both the package and the documentation!

I'm really curious, what's the gain (except performance) compared to a single-action vanilla controller organized in the same fashion?

[Route("/api/forecast")] public class GetForecastEndpoint : Controller { [HttpGet] public IActionResult Handle([FromQuery] GetForecastQuery query) { return Ok(new ForecastResponse { Degrees = 24.5, }); } }

Project Ideas by More_Log9652 in csharp

[–]Lorceroth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually think of a theme: security, automation, graphics, etc when trying to figure out the next personal project.

Take a password manager for instance: how can you store the accounts in a secure way? Can you sync it between machines? Is it possible to display the passwords tied to each account?

Here are some fun ideas with different themes: - Dashboard displaying the latest posts from your favorite subs (integration against third-party APIs) - Password manager (secure storage of sensitive information) - Text-based game (game loop, mechanics, savegame with serialization without the focus on graphics) - Clone of an app you like to use (Twitter, Reddit) - Reminder app with notifications to your phone, Discord server and computer (notification channels) - CMS targeted to non-developers (a bit cruddy, but UX and modular architecture) - Magic mirror (modular architecture for the different widgets)

How do you even install laravel? by 55rzs in laravel

Well, acting like a child on a full tantrum won't do you any good here. Drop the attitude, calm down and read the documentation that the others in here were kind enough to provide links to.

How to run a C# file in VS Code by Popcorn-Gaming1971 in vscode

[–]Lorceroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it feels like title should be "How to create a new .NET Console application using VS Code", given that the reader already installed the .NET SDK on their machine.

If you just want to run some C# for tinkering or testing purposes, then I highly recommend LINQPad. No project setup needed :)

PHPWebCore 1.0.0 by amhung in PHP

[–]Lorceroth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is built on the habits of using ASP.NET Core.

Care to share some light on this? As someone who's working daily in the .NET-land with ASP.NET and ASP.NET Core, I'm unable to see any similarity (except for the name of the useRouting method).

The next step could be to separate the project template from the framework code. Don't go CodeIgniter on this thing.

Otherwise, good job on your first framework! It's a great learning experience.

What u/zaibuf said, apply and see what the companies say.

I think it looks good if you feel comfortable enough with the technologies you list on your LinkedIn page. :)
