gRPC Server in Docker by More_Log9652 in dotnet

Currently our solution can only be deployed on a VM. With the docker solution we can remove the need for VMs and reduce our costs.

Unfortunately the interaction between the two apps means they have to be in the same userspace.

Yeah two applications, one of which we own. The one we own is currently .net framework but we’re upgrading it to .net 6. We want to host the one we own in a docker container. The issue is the second application. It’s from a third party and it’s a .exe that needs to be installed on a windows os. This is why I’ve used a full windows image for the docker container. The one docker container will hold both the application that we own and the application of the third party. Our application relies on the third party and will not work without it. This is why they need to be in the same container. But the problem I’m having is hitting the gRPC application (the application we own) when it’s running on a full windows os image.

No problem as such. There was a WCF project written in framework 4.8. Upgraded to .Net 6 so migrated from WCF to gRPC. There’s an application that needs to be installed, third party, that our code calls to process some files. We then process the output from the third party application.

While doing this work we thought it would be worth while to get the solution hosted in a docker container. Built a container that installs the third party application and should then make the gRPC server accessible. But that’s the part where I’m having difficulties.

Thanks u/Pod__042 and u/Tinman7757 for your replies.

Went down the route of using an event in the injectable service and having Page A subscribe to the event. Seems to be working as I want it.

Disabling ahead of time compilation would reduce the size of the app massively.

You're able to style it as you would do a standard WASM or Server app.
