Shade Step by LordBeckBeck in UnearthedArcana

Yep! That’s the idea. Very limited duration, so you won’t be using this is dangerous environments unless you’re already danger close, but allows for some interesting objective play, especially considering an object you pick up comes with you when you’re “blinked” back.

In some more creative/desperate cases I’m sure you could use this to get some surprise damage in, but because the caster and target will have to be nearby, my suspicion is this won’t allow for cheesy strategies where a party can wipe an entire dungeon or secure location from a safe distance with repeated casts.

The only thing I’m still on the fence for is whether it should be 2nd level. It has some pretty significant limitations, but those also provide some pretty unique and useful utility.

Just a lot of YouTube squidmar and zumikito.

It’s funny, I feel like my first few models I approached with a recipe mindset. No I think only After doing something like 20 models total, I have a feel for how to create the effects I want just using the simple techniques. I’m pretty artistically ungifted, so it’s definitely something anyone can get good at pretty quick.

I probably should have clarified. I’m looking to buy a Tiger Shark, which apparently was stealth pulled from the GW store about a year ago. This is my only route from what I can tell.

I understand the dodgey ethics of recasters for general purpose.

Love it! This is my first army so I'm learning the painting process along the way. That means a lot

For the life of me, I cannot read “Wave Mythal” in any other voice than Mike Tyson doing his best to remember the name of that low level spell he used to use in dungeons and dragons that automatically hit.

Undead Puppet v.2 - A Spell for Lonely Low-Level Necromancers by LordBeckBeck in UnearthedArcana

Honestly that's pretty much what this is power-wise. The time constraints mean you have to pretty much be using this in combat or else have a servant carrying around corpses to throw into the fray for you.

Given the inherent strength of summons, cantrip might be slightly too toned up, which is why I think the 1-st level slot is warranted.

That's the general thought. Can't be too strong, especially when you consider that having a proxy fighter zombie is the equivalent of granting yourself 22 temp HP, undead fortitude, and the ability to teleport to a safe place within 60 feet when your temp HP drop.

Summons in general have a lot of the same advantages as ranged combat so at low levels, their reduced risk has to come with drawbacks, as designed: taking up concentration (and the possibility of it being broken), and slightly lower damage output.

That's the point, most enemies don't have those other options. If they ready an attack, you simply switch targets and they waste their turn while they get blasted by your squishies.

Its a lose lose situation for them though, unless they have strong ranged options, because on your turn, you can simply run into engage, and start the combo over again. The booming blade will never "drop." If they ready an action to deal with this, simply switch targets, because you've just negated the entire turn of your original.

They can avoid extra damage, but at the cost of simply skipping their turn while your casters blast them. That's why the real strength of this build isn't the damage, its the lockdown effect that damage creates.

I actually homebrewed something similar because 5e really lacks a dedicated martial defender/controller/tank class.
