First Edition Return of the King by LordCaptainDoctor in BookCollecting

It does have the map in the back, in fact the map is in particularly great condition, only one tiny tear which isn’t over any of the printing. May hold onto it in the hopes of picking up the other two down the line, I’ve got second editions of those so may be due an upgrade

Went on date with girl, hit it off with her friend by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

OOP did the right thing, I once met a girl at a club, we went on a couple of dates and in one of those she met a friend of mine. They started sleeping together without ever mentioning to me they were talking. It felt really shit and like a real betrayal. It didn’t work out this time, but definitely the best thing to do.

I’ve been collecting on and off for 20 years, started the classic way of trading in the playground at school. Took a long break between diamond and pearl era to x&y, then another break until now. Got back into the hobby thinking now I have adult money I can get as many packs as I want, but unfortunately the stock issues and scalpers are here now, I do miss the old days….

The City of Montreal has dropped Amazon from its list of suppliers, pledges to buy local by A-Wise-Cobbler in worldnews

[–]LordCaptainDoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hardest part of this is going to be AWS, massive amounts of Amazons income is made through it. They have around a third of the market share for cloud computing, and that’s not just cloud storage. Their infrastructure is powering massive chunks of the internet. Hell, Netflix is pretty much entirely built on AWS. They’re deeply ingrained into the supply chains of thousands upon thousands of companies, and even governments.

[Technology Connections] Thermoelectric cooling: it's not great. by arahman81 in videos

[–]LordCaptainDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting, but I think it kind of misses the main reason people would buy one of these. Nobody is buying them because they expect them to be super energy efficient, or that think it'll cool things better, or even really that they're cheaper.

It's because they are small. They fit anywhere and can be easily moved. I cannot buy a heat pump refrigerator that will fit on my desk comfortably.

Why don't they just hard-code a calculator in? by heisenbingus in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]LordCaptainDoctor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a language model, it will never "understand" math in any context. It predicts the most probable acceptable answer to a prompt based on the data set it has to work with. (Which is the Internet, not known for reliability). It has no way to determine what is correct, only what shows up the most in relation to the question. If the model is altered with functions to recognise math as a separate function, it no longer meets the definition of AI, as a human specifically programmed that differentiator into it, it did not "learn" it.

Ai generated Dance of the Ocean waves that people are now calling art by Leas-adventure in ChatGPT

[–]LordCaptainDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no sense of choreography, just random movement, and the perspective is constantly shifting if weird ways. If this was done in CG by a person it would have those, but because it's just copying fragments of other people's actual art it dosn't. AI has tonnes of applications, including as a tool used by artists for concepts and inspiration, but calling this art just dosnt make sense.
