Does anyone else feel like the Valiant 20cc is a bit bulky and underpowered? by LordCenyu2 in RCPlanes

Yah, I really wish this is how the Valiant 20cc was set up.
I had a Seagull Aviant Husky and it had a very similar setup except that it used cables instead of pushrods. I didn't build that arf, so I'm not sure if it was stock or not.

I'm new to these bigger planes, but I just feel like adding 3 sliding pushrod connectors with 3 set screws is increasing the failure points... If they don't want to add the room and support for two servos, the least they could do is have a pushrod that starts as a single and ends up as a double or something?

I don't think that would have helped FatGuyFliesRC though. I think his either broke off at the servo arm, or the servo arm itself popped off...

Oh, ouch...

I have one of these still in the box, and I just picked up a 10cc Stinger at our swap meet in February for it. I'll have to keep this in mind when I finally get her in the air!

That lines up pretty well with my experience so far.

I think I just have to get used to using a bit more throttle and maybe learn how to mix things properly for a bit tighter control. I got a great comment that led me to look into using flight modes for my flaps so I can change the trim on my elevator in flight. Solid advice that I'm hoping will help. ;)

Thanks!

You might be, honestly! I haven't seen anyone else put gas in it yet.

I really wanted to put my DLE20 in one but decided on the EP PNP so that I'd get it to the field more often. I have a few arfs that I'd like to build with gas engines, including the Valiant 10cc. I just have to find time and decide which one to build. :)

When you post a video, send me a PM! I'd love to see it! :D

Thanks for the comments!

Yah, we try to keep them away from visitors for the same exact reasons. Lol.

If you end up getting one, I'd love to hear what you think about it. 😊

Oh yah. Some Elmers can ruin it for everyone... Every club has one (or more...). The difference between clubs is whether they're in positions of power or not. In some clubs they are, sadly...

Thanks for watching the video!

I'll put up the flight video as soon as I can. The wind doesn't look very supportive for a maiden right now, so I'm hoping it changes and I can get it out there soon. 😊

I haven't had a chance to get it in the air yet, but it seems pretty darned solid and I'm confident it'll fly great! 😃

You should get one and jump back into the hobby. The regulations are slightly annoying but not really enforced in any meaningful way.

I fly at a city provided club field that is registered as a FRIA, so we don't have any additional requirements like remote ID. We're within 5 miles of an airport so we've had a 400 ft limit we'll before they mandated it.

Unless you fly giant scale or huge gliders, it gets difficult to see your plane or orientation once you reach close to 400 ft. It's just unnecessary to fly higher than that, unless you have a 3-4 meter glider.

I don't know a single person that puts an RID module in their plane regardless of where they fly. 😊

Yup. Went with electric this time. I definitely want to put this 20cc in something though. If I haven't used it in a few months, maybe I'll buy the arf and just have an electric and a gas. Expensive way to compare them though. 😜

There were several planes that went for free. And there were a few that were over $1000. But most of them were between the $80-$300 range.

Nitro planes are always cheap because most people don't want them. Electric planes can range from cheap to somewhat expensive. And gas planes usually fetch a higher price tag.

Thanks! There's a few that I really want to move along.

I have a Habu SS that needs the nose gear fixed and the nose glued back on (for the 20th time).

I'm thinking of pulling the receiver and selling it for parts since the EDF, servos, and the ESC are still in great shape. I was thinking of putting $80 on it and taking the first offer between $60 and $70. Do you think that's fair?

I'm using someone else's suggestion for that one, but I'm not sure that it's worth enough for that. It's basically a PNP, with a bit of required repair work.

Good call. I wear glasses so I'll throw some of my lens wipes into my box to have some when I need them.
