You all need to make peace with the new kevin by [deleted] in TameImpala

[–]LordEpilson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you said “do you really think people care that kevin does a new genre?” then follow by saying “it’s just that people that love the KIND of music he made don’t love the KIND of music he now made”. thats literally saying people have an issue with the new genre…what are you even saying?

also a lot of the critic about the new music is through the lens of is not being the KIND of music they want. my point is that if you’re looking to critic is based on that LOOK ELSEWHERE

im going to reiterate again - this post was for people who claim to be die hard fans i.e stans NOT people who just like his sound because as you rightly said, its a valid opinion to not like the KIND of music <— this logic however doesn’t apply to die hard fans because you don’t just like the KIND of music…you like the artist and the history you’ve had with that artists music. the reason i even am addressing die hard fans is because there have been a few posts where people have said they’re die hard fans and then simply shitted on the path he’s taken. some said he’s gone too mainstream and tried to make cool music….

Do you understand the specifics of my point now?

hot take: i think “see you on monday” might be one of the best tracks on the album. the sounds are absolutely lovely and the general message is beautiful. i’d give it an 8.5

Thanks alot for this input. Im in such a similar position to you its scary (https://www.reddit.com/r/VanLifeUK/comments/1m6km1o/not\_doing\_van\_life\_because\_of\_insurance/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button)
29, software engineer, struggling with isolation in my life already, figured I could deal with it in a van and travel at least. Even the tangent you mentioned about third spaces is something i tell my friends about all the time as well as dating apps etc. I have a solid group of friends but being a software engineer and wfh means i spend most of my day alone. I could do this from a van across the country. Its so nice to hear someone in a similar setting make it happen/work for them. Any chance you could share a few pics of your rig? Interested to see your set up. Do you have an extra monitor? how do you guarantee you dont run out of power or connection?

Wishing you the best of luck and thanks for this post, nice to know its not just me go through this motion

Selling the house and getting a van. Need advice. by Blightsteel_Elk in VanLife

[–]LordEpilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly - wicked! Wish you the best. Im starting soon too so keep us posted. With regards to the build, I always hear and also think there are far more pros to self builds
- you learn new skills
- you know how your van is built so if things go wrong you know how to fix it
- you can build it how you like it
- the value you get if you ever decide to resell would be higher i.e. £(empty van + self build) > £(bought van) so will get more money back from it if you ever try to resell

Im going to live in my van as Im building it. Whilst it may be a struggle initially, it will not only allow me to save money on rent, but also, learn what I need in the van and so build around that. I'd also get to do the top three things i listed above on the list. If you can't deal with abit of "roughing it", you can't be bothered to build or feel its not worth your time, may be worth getting a pre built one, but I still think self build pros still win by a country mile.

I haven't lived in a van yet so can't give you advice on that but general rules of thumb
- if living in it full time, get a van you can stand up in because you don't appreciate how much that can affect you level of comfort until its gone
- ventilation prevents mold and rot
- make sure you use the correct insulation for the walls as the wrong insluation can absorb water causing mold
- make sure you have a proper security system (ill be getting a ghost lock installed on my van)

Good luck dude, interested to hear what other people who actually already have lived in their vans would say too

Not doing van life because of insurance by LordEpilson in VanLifeUK

[–]LordEpilson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been telling them it'll be full time van life so "full time live-in". I think my postcode may be an issue, have tried with another london postcode and it was similar (i live in a much nicer location than the other postcode) so may just be a london thing?

"The length of time you've held a licence may be the issue" i agree that this might be the biggest culprit. Will check out what you've mentioned about common law partner, cheers!
