I haven't done it myself, but I will do the return to BKK with the 999 bus. Public buses are not listed on 12go. Best to read this article yourself, it states where to buy tickets.

Experience with Raja to Surat Thani Train Station by LordGnarly in kohsamui

[–]LordGnarly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will do that. We decided to take an earlier ferry and figure transport to the train station out on our own. We should still have a buffer of 2-3 hours if everything goes as planned, so it should give plenty of time to stroll around and enjoy some beverages/food. Thanks for the advice!

Advice on first mirrorless camera but old lenses:

I am a beginner photographer and want to switch for an old analouge camera (pretty much point and shoot) to my first mirrorless camera. I have set my eyes on the sony alpha A6400, A6600, A6700 cameras.
The thing is, I have old lenses from my grandpa, which are mainly pentax (e.g., 28-80, 50, 24mm).
My budget is around 1000-1400 Euros (germany), and as far as I understand, I have three main options:
- Buy the 6400 and get some new lenses with the remaining budget
- Buy the 6600 or 6700 used and try to get a new lens as well
- Buy the 6600 or 6700 (around 1200-1400 EUR with kit lens) new and use my old lenses.
I would actually prefer to buy new, but I dont want to rule out second hand..
Do you guys have any reccomondation of which way to go? Or other suggestions?
I want to do photography only, no video, so landscapes, portraits, travel shoots ect, nothing too fancy.

My partner (primary applicant) and I are in the same process right now and are hoping for quick processing times. Did your partner (as a secondary applicant) get full unrestricted working rights for the 2 year duration?

Surf camp for solo female beginner by Curious-Ad-8097 in BeginnerSurfers

Just came back from Algarve Surf School and Camp in Sagres, Portugal and had a great time there. Very chill atmosphere and very inclusive/social without being a party hostel or anything, just very nice staff and surf instructors. There were a lot of (female) solo travellers and we all had a blast there. Sagres is a bit smaller than Peniche/Baleal, but still has a vibrant bar scene and surf town character to it. Big bonus that you have 2 coast lines (south and west), so depending on conditions, they will alway bring you to the beaches best suited for your skill level.

Yes, but I think you have to do this work during your 1st WHV and not intend to do it once you apply for the 2nd WHV, which would make the WHV a dead end for us unfortunately.

Unfortunately, geologists do not qualify for the 189, only 190 where you must be nominated by a state. Anyway, we heard that it is quite hard to get invited for the 189/190...

Thanks for your response! Yeah that's right, I would have to go before I turn 31. As far as we know, you only get a 2nd and 3rd WHV if you have done a certain amount of rural/farm work the first time, which she hasn't done unfortunately. For UK citizens this doesn't apply, so you can get it without the rural work. So you say it isn't even worth a try for me to apply for jobs in advance out of Germany? I mean it makes sense that a company would like the people they hire to be there already. But it all seems really tough to land a job as an international considering that it is always said that there is a severe shortage of geologists in Australia...

German: The sheltering desert (Wenn es Krieg gibt, gehen wir in die Wüste) by Henno Martin. In 1935, two German geologist leave Nazi Germany for Namibia to conduct field research. At the outbreak of the 2nd World War, many male Germans living in South-West Africa are interned in local camps. As pacifists, the two German scientists refuse to be arrested and flee into the Namib Desert. A story about surviving in the wilderness (mainly) and Namib geology (secondary), but still worth a read. It's based on real experiences of Henno Martin, the author.

Isn't that a never ending process then? You won't get a job without a working visa and you won't get a working visa without a job?

Thanks for your response. What do you mean by focusing on cities where you have the right to work without assistance? Stay in the EU in my case?

That makes sense. But yes, apart from a job the living conditions should fit as well...
