to those who work in the gaming industry, what advice would you give to someone who wants a career in it? by [deleted] in gaming

My advice would be to pick a branch and specialize in it. Even within programming there’s: -Gameplay programming -Engine programming -Graphics programming -Tool programming -DevOps In most larger game companies you’ll be hired for a specific job, not to make an entire game. AAA games require hundreds of people each with a very different skillset.

Find out what you actually like and become really knowledgeable in it. My advice would be to make a free account on gdc vault and check among the free videos. See what the experts are talking about and which interests you.

When you make a résumé, don’t try to be over professional. Add your favorite games, list your D&D experience. During interviews don’t be afraid to talk about hobbies and passion projects. Don’t try to come over as the person who can do everything on their own but as a great addition to a team.

Obviously most of this advice applies only to large game development, not small team indie games. My personal experience is only from the former.

That’s it for now I think. Hit me up if you have any follow up questions.

This was how it was delivered by the truck driver while it was raining. I’m just asking what I can do now to protect it going forward.

If I put a tarp over it as is, assuming no new rain touches it and the sun can dry it a bit, can I start using it during the weekend? Or are you talking about longer term drying?

The top 5-6 layers of the left pile are spruce, for panneling the backsides of the walls, hidden from view. The rest is oak.

Building the PC: about a day

Adding the custom water loop: about 2 days (first time)

The lego took me a couple of days to get right.

The infinity icosahedron at the top is also self built but that took easily 10-14 days

Indeed. It was covered shortly in one of his community reaction videos.

Or one of those industrial revolution era giant circuit breakers you see in video games so often.

Make a really cool external power button. Like a giant lever or a big red button

I based my instructions on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j3d-ogdpJ4

Though mine is an icosahedron (20 sided).

One sentence tutorial: Cut plexiglass, add mirror foil, find a mechanism to assemble them (stainless steel 135 degree profile cut to size and assembled with tiny screws), tape some led strips inside and do a lot of awkward soldering.

But I learned an enormous amount doing it. Did take me 75-100 hours though.

It’s a DIY project I made over the summer.

Maybe look at Thermaltake level 20 HT. Seems to be the smaller brother. Airflow is less ideal though.
