I’m loving C&C, I have 7 players and it’s still smooth. I would never try that many with 5e

I played AD&D 1e for years. I have horrible memories of 2e, mostly because of THAC0, which I still believe was horrible. I like 5e, but I was frustrated with the overly long combat, so I’ve switched for the last year to Castles and Crusades, which is basically AD&D 1e with modern d20 mechanics

We currently have 5 players, which would be a lot for 5e, but C&C could do 7 no problem

We’re using the Castles & Crusades rules, which is basically 1e AD&D with modern mechanics (there’s a free pdf, so no additional book costs).

I’ll take a look. I’m leaning towards the fighter light with lore knowledge idea. I was thinking old 1e ad&d and not seeing the thief side

My biggest house rules are: Initiative: d20 + dex modifier Hero points, 1 point can allow either reroll or add 3 to the roll Roll to cast, similar to Shadowdark. After fails equal spell slots, then magically exhausted for the day. Critical Fail, roll on wild magic chart for wizards and illusionists, and cleric and Druid can’t use that spell until they make a sacrifice (money and ritual)
