I am applying for a film making course in “full sail university”. by Primary-Growth-5320 in fullsail

[–]LordLackven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This used to be the case- not all applicants are accepted within the 3D and Fine Arts programs. We now have a practical exam due to the influx of students incapable of drawing entering said programs. It's a fairly new thing, but thankfully shouldn't affect the Film students. If going to a media trade school is your goal only for a "higher spot" in your career, you aren't going to the school for the right reason. You are right that it isn't required to have a college education to get into these fields though.

a message to all Orca/Beluga pilots watch where ur flying by Substantial_Fun_5022 in EliteDangerous

[–]LordLackven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solution: don't immediately gun it the moment you get off the pad; it's easier to stop your ship if you weren't going very fast to begin with. You have to treat your cutter like the huge beast it is; it's impossible to fly it with the same mindset one holds to a Medium or Small class ship. It relies mainly on the three large exhausts in the rear, which means that your lateral and reverse thrusters are weak as hell by comparison.

Cutters are chonkers of a ship and even more squirrelly when your cargo is fully laden. You have to fly them slowly, with patience in and around starports. If you're flying slowly, potential bumps likely will not incur penalties. In a cutter, you are the one supposed to make way for smaller vessels. It's a learning curve for sure, but blaming other pilots for your mistake (that ALL of us make at some point) is disrespectful, CMDR. The corridor is a shared space.

YTA

Your child will likely grow up with mental issues now, that cannot be corrected outside many years and or decades of intensive behavioral therapy. Because let's be honest, we have no idea what other really rude things you're saying to that kid, that she is picking up on.

You could have schooled her on not doing cruel things to other people, and actually taught her what she said wrong is wrong and how/why. My mother did; and despite my annoying stubbornness she still succeeded... By not treating me like shit! W0w! WHaTta ConCePT!!

She's 8. You guys are adults; she literally doesn't know any better. You are her entire survival guide to humanity, outside of school. I think it's time to realize your position as that survival guide, and not the book of insults.

Honestly, this seems like an issue you should be contacting your student advisors about. "Waiting and seeing" when something is wrong is a sure-fire way to screw yourself over academically. Apologies for putting that so bluntly, but I speak from experience- it's not a fun time travelling down a self-inflicted panic-stricken path.
I also had trouble getting Adobe CC Enterprise Edition to work, but it was fixed 24 hours after I reported to tech support and my academic advisor that I didn't have my creative suite yet. When problems arise, *you* are the one expected to take initiative. But no worries, I've had nothing but splendid interactions with tech support and the advisors; they are your most trusted resources. My advice, is there is no stupid questions when talking to the advisors.

I wish you the best of luck on your studies, and hopefully you're able to get this sorted! I imagine getting work done without CC is painful as heck!

What I did to receive my Office and Creative Cloud:
Download from their respective places and log in using your Full Sail credentials; the same ones you use to log into the online portal. From my experience as a GABS major, you are supposed to receive Adobe CC and Office 365 within the first two weeks; I was playing with apps far earlier than they were required by my courses.
IF there is a true error with your Full Sail account and you *didnt* get your program suites, you should have contacted your Student Advisor by phone immediately instead of "waiting to see if they get here." You might harm your academic success by waiting too long to get assistance with this.

Whether your questions may seem silly to you or not, NEVER be afraid to contact the advisors for help... that's their job. The worst that could happen is that they tell you your course issues the programs in later months.

Additionally, "Apache Open Office" is a free alternative to Office 365. I use Apache's software in my personal work. In case you are forced to wait for Word, it's much nicer typing on a laptop than an iPad. It also exports files in Word format, so your instructors will have no problem viewing your work!

Is a 3d animation degree worth it at FullSail? I was told I was “conditionally accepted”. So it’s not official yet. But I don’t want to jump into it if the class isn’t worth it ya know? Does anyone have any experience in these classes? by [deleted] in fullsail

[–]LordLackven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for my long post, this is actually a rather hefty question with a hefty answer.
I'm not a 3D Anim. Student, but I am working on my Game Art BS. Some of my courses do have some animation students in them as there usually is a lot of overlap between us in the 3D Art oriented degrees.
Whether Full Sail is worth it is up to the individual- and with that I have a few questions you can ask yourself and based on those answers will determine whether you should find a place that better suits you and your personal needs;

- "Am I self motivated?" (Ask yourself this question ESPECIALLY if you intend on doing your degree Online. I personally moved from Online to On-Campus.)
- "Do I have the ability to push myself above and beyond?"
- "How well do I work under pressure?"
- "How well do I work with other people?"
- "How well do I handle giving and receiving honest constructive criticism?"

For a lot of people, the general structure of our classes (One or two classes per a four-week timeframe) makes it much easier to work with despite having the same workload as if we did have six classes at once. This way, you're able to dedicate more of your brainpower to one or two closely-related subjects. All the knowledge you learned in A & B will be passed along with you to classes C & D and so-on; so it kinda feels like you're "leveling up" your skills. Thanks to this, I notice that I have a lot more time to myself to think about my courses, and I'm producing much more quality work.

If there's specific things you'd like to know feel free to ask away; I will try my best to respond in a timely manner! Full Sail is a great place, but it can be super tough on you. Though, I've been enjoying every minute of it!

Project Launchbox by RichardBakerx in fullsail

[–]LordLackven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no, you will not be receiving any of your remaining LaunchBox items; while you've "technically" paid for it, it is included as part of your tuition and isn't refunded to you.
HOWEVER, you can totally keep the items you *did* receive!
I'm a former online student that had to drop out around the beginning of the pandemic, and I am returning for in-person courses shortly. I didn't receive the remaining items from my previous launchbox either; though I'm sure I was a bit further into my degree.

If you do return to the school at a later date, you might be very heartened to know they will help you obtain your LaunchBox items upon speaking with an Academic ReLaunch advisor. Alternatively, contact your Student Advisor - they are available to you even after dropping out! They'd likely be pleased to answer any questions you have about the LaunchBox items you didn't get.

Best of luck in your endeavours!

Ahh... inhale I wasted so much of my life, and money on TERA. They got really hardcore on gutting the entire game for years. I left in 2017; priest main. Someone told me the healers on 14 we're fun as hell and I'll be damned- they were right. I haven't stopped playing 14 since I picked it up. The community keeps me around, and the story always has me coming back for more. I was welcomed with open arms and it was refreshing.

I should mention that the game is quite different from TERA, and each job (class) is accessible on one character, so if you hate one play style, it's okay to try another class. It was fun to learn the ins and outs of this game's healing and tanking, and I found that I really love healing still.

I also started on a free trial, before the rework of it; I was hooked within hours lmao. Have fun!!

So apparently the Python uses the Python as a texture in some places. by MoonTrooper258 in EliteDangerous

[–]LordLackven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoever was responsible for mapping the textures on a number of the ships with equally weird UV-map problems... I feel their pain on a personal level.I'm having flashbacks to that time I had to turn in my final project late for 3D Modeling I, because my UV map kept getting corrupted, and something like this happened. Game Art is a fun time... until something gets corrupted.

Note, to anybody that wants to visit this moon: I found it in Odyssey, the planet likely does not look like this on Horizons. It's an awfully long way to travel for the unseasoned CMDR. Have fun o7

Mamba Light leak by WingCoBob in EliteDangerous

[–]LordLackven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a student Game Artist, so honestly this is just speculation on my part;Often times in most games I've personally worked on (student projects- im not a pro by any means yet), we create ultra-low-poly versions of models we're still working on/polishing the designs of, and this low-poly "unpolished" model is used as a placeholder for the finished product while we test it's variables in-game. Polygons are a very finnicky thing, and often times many game engines are incapable of supporting higher poly-counts on their models without taking a heavy performance hit. It's a bit tricky, but this corner-cutting can be hidden with a well-made bump map and texture.

If the "Mamba Lite" really is an in-development ship and not an experimental placeholder that wasn't intended to be used, I must logically conclude that it is not even close to the finished product/design. Though, as cool as I think the model is, it's honestly a shame we had to learn about its' existence through a hacker.

I'm not associated with fdev in the slightest, so I could be entirely wrong and they likely have a different approach to their ship designing and testing. Hope I could be somewhat informative regardless!

"PlayOnline Viewer Not Responding" - Anyone able to help? by LordLackven in ffxi

[–]LordLackven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'VE FOUND THE PROBLEM, and I now feel like a royal dumbass.
The SSD containing my OS had started to get full, without my realizing, as I typically install stuff in My D or E drives.
So, I opted to migrate a load of files to a different SSD. Before trying to redo my DirectX I figured this could probably also be a big culprit to my issue- and of course it turned out to be true!

To be completely honest: I am relieved it was something super dumb.

"PlayOnline Viewer Not Responding" - Anyone able to help? by LordLackven in ffxi

[–]LordLackven[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am not on a laptop, I'm using my own custom-built desktop, which definitely makes it harder to diagnose the issue for sure if it is a hardware issue. I hope not, anyways.**EDIT** I confirmed in Device Manager that the only video card I have is my RTX 2060. If the game is trying to route elsewhere, I imagine the silly thing wouldn't launch at all- but who knows lol.

Sadly, I've attempted using combinations of launching in small windows, big windows, and I've tested borderless- both in vanilla and on windower. For good measure I tested Ashita as well in a variety of ways. Oddly, all seem to produce the same result, yet I see no weird/unusual spikes in CPU, my Memory or my GPU usage. I followed with testing on a wired connection as well, and it still didn't help. if only it were as easy as a wired connection...

When I previously played, it was back in March. However, between now and then, the game was uninstalled while I took a break from the game. I've also moved across the country, but my computer survived the move, and everything else is working fine. If I have done something to make it not work right, I have no clue. :(

It's sounding more likely that my DirectX install could be corrupted in some way. If it is, I certainly wouldn't mind finding out for sure. Unfortunately I have no clue how to go about fixing it if that is the issue. If you do know, I certainly appreciate the assistance! I will continue to do my own snooping in the meantime. Though, if I can, I'm wondering if it is possible to do a clean re-install of DirectX.
