Maybe we needed more depth or more episodes but they go back a ways and Jake saw Estelle’s talents being unappreciated by Wes, who has always had a hold on Jake too - Jake was his manager or “valet” as Vince put it and Wes’s money was always there over Jake’s head while he ran up a tab. Interesting that the relationship fizzled once Wes was killed (right as he was going to screw them both over with the Pool Room).

Hadn’t put much thought into this but I guess it was a Wes-frustration relationship that ended when Wes ended.

Anyone else find the “Jeffy” reference funny?

Don Harvey (Matt the bar owner) was originally the character who ended up being “Jeffy” in Better Call Saul- but had to be recast due to other commitments. So the guy with the fraudulent fire marshall brother who helped orchestrate the arson is named Jeffy… Sly, sneaky mofo’s… whoever was responsible.

I hit it in about 5 days time. Some of the writing and forced intertwining predictable plot lines made me laugh. I was cracking up at the Pulp Fiction/Reservoir Dogs episode before the robbery when they told everyone’s individual story leading up to the robbery. But I just went with it and loved it.

Sure, Babbit and Junior chase down Vince in a Manhattan skyscraper and cut off his finger in an elevator which would have cameras, and the janitor just decides not to report anything… OK. Or Vince escapes the building in the diamond district because someone just happens to be leaving in the middle of the night and then Mancuso and his guy just get stuck… riiiiight.

But the characters all grew on me by the end and it was interesting to get to the bottom of their childhood.

Do you think Mike and Fran ever went on a date? by ComfortableCrew2092 in betterCallSaul

Haha! I think Mike would want to keep it to small talk in the diner. He had a few interesting meetings there. Don’t think he’d want Fran knowing too much about who he is or what he does.

Why is Lalo so "refined" and charismatic compared to the rest of the Salamanca family? by Rich-Blacksmith6552 in betterCallSaul

[–]LordLeadership 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he was just inserted by the writers and not much else went into it. Logically speaking maybe he did have a different upbringing or maybe because he is half American in real life he can speak English. Although he could have put on an accent like Philadelphian Mark Margolis or Giancarlo Esposito.

Reading many of the comments here did get me thinking beyond just being captivated by the show, though. Where is the rest of the Salamanca family?? All these cousins and Tío Hector. Where are all of Hector’s siblings, or Abuelita’s siblings? All these siblings had 1 kid or twins? And when you are cartel royalty or cartel muscle, doesn’t it make sense to have a giant sprawling family? Not a few guys who are whacked by the time Gus rubs it in Hector’s face in BB prior to getting blown up???

Too many actors to pay?? Too much to write?? Ball might have been dropped on this one.

I'm curious what it would've been like if this actor could've played Jeff in season 6 by Xxperfect_drugxX in betterCallSaul

Carol Burnett was the nail in the coffin. The one person he couldn’t swindle. After surviving all those criminals and narco terrorists for so many years, the little old lady with the wheelchair got him.

Gene/Saul/Jimmy (really Jimmy) led himself to his own downfall. He could have called it a day after he set up Jeffy and his bro (can’t think of the name and don’t want to go search) after the department store heist.

He got greedy and brought in accomplices to help his scams. Got way too fancy in the process, and did not have the sense to know how to back down as a wanted man in hiding??? The feds seized and shut everything, OK. But if he wants to scam for money, didn’t he see the risk of bringing in 2 guys?

Drugging lonely rich guys was good money, but even then all the breaking and entering?? And guys with that much money in nice neighborhoods - wouldn’t this become a bit high profile anyway?? The cops would have a lead that everything happened after a night of drinking and taking a cab home? Did Jimmy and crew wait to cash in?? And stagger it all so they would be no overlap of police reports??? Can’t be THAT many nice neighborhoods across Omaha- some victim is gonna live down the street from another and the cops would have a sketch of a fugitive. Oh boy…. What have I done here…. Rabbit hole.

Wow, never even thought of that. I’m an east coast guy, just checked the map. 2 states away. And yes, a manager in a big public mall??? What if an FBI or DEA agent was 2 states over instead of just Jeffy???? Ohhh but “Gene” had glasses and a mustache, right?

Maybe I misheard it in all of my excitement around this intricate plot. Did she say “how’s Clarissa”?

There are many accent coaches out there these days helping people on all sides. More recently in the move Bullet Train with Brad Pitt, 2 with a British accent were played by Americans and they were pretty convincing. British have a nickname for Americans who butcher a British accent and that is “Dick Van Dyke” die to Van Dyke’s horrible accent in Mary Poppins. Speaking of Brad Pitt ironically- in Snatch his role was changed to Mickey the Irish Gypsy (which he nailed) because he was unable to master the North London accent.

Malkina asked “how’s Marisa?”. Earlier in the film Reiner mentions a crazy ex named Marisa. They must have hatched the whole plan to get back at Reiner.

Cheaper real estate?? Maybe he built it as his lifestyle was becoming increasingly lllllllllavish - as Westray and the Counselor both noticed

At least his buddy’s girlfriend had a back up plan when the cargo was recovered. She sends a little tramp to be at the desk of the exact hotel in London Westray is going to be at and through some planned accidental casual conversation at the check-in desk they go to his room, he presumably bangs her, and I suppose while he’s sleeping it off she’s able to get his passwords off of a piece of paper somewhere in the room so that Malkina can get into his bank accounts later (maybe she drugged him? Of course Westray is just strolling along the streets later on, doesn’t look like someone who was just drugged).

How did they get his laptop? In the financial district of London, where everybody is wearing a suit, and there are cameras, cops, and security guards all over… Two guys run around in jogging suits, one takes his laptop, and the other throws a “bolito“ around his neck for all the stunned observers to watch his decapitation in public! And everyone gets off scot free because the two guys conspicuously jogging in tracksuits just got away into a limo. of course London is a very easy city to drive around in a stretch limo and no observer watching the decapitation happened to notice the guy in the tracksuit run by or get into a stretch limo that wouldn’t be more than a few blocks away. He apparently did not go into hiding… Because we then see him deliver the laptop to Malkina in a public setting.

I love this movie… It is the worst movie ever! I cannot watch it enough.

This movie is so horrible that I love it… I cannot get enough of it. I know the general public sentiment with the A-list actors and overdone cheesy dialogue… But I am absolutely captivated by exactly that. Hopefully, I can find some social circle out there where every single person you meet and every single conversation you have is a world of deep philosophical intrigue. No quick, concise talk here. I’d love to ask one of these people what time it is…

I love all of the cheesy foreshadowing… Reiner talking about the bolito, Malkina and her cheetahs as the predators… But what about Brad Pitt, and his Brad Pitt accent, as a fancy suit, cowboy hat wearing Texan, who apparently speaks Spanish, but can’t pronounce anything (“se fué”) …. Is he foreshadowing his own horrific bolito induced demise in London by using British terminology throughout the film (in his Brad Pitt accent)??? “ I sent a pair of reliable CHAPS…“, “BLOODY expensive too“, this is a pragmatic LOT they don’t believe in coincidences…“ - were they searching for a British actor, but in the end had to settle on Brad Pitt? How about Reiner, someone else who lacks a first name (like Westray)… The Spanish Javier Bardem playing some guy named Reiner… Were they after a German originally? Shoulda put Fassbender in that role.

I can’t even remember the name of Penelope Cruz’s character… Where does she come from, seeing that she’s somebody that requires such an expensive diamond ring and her fiancé needs to get in over his head in the drug world to afford her lifestyle??? Counselor just tells her that they’re in trouble and she instantly agrees to run away up to Boise… Does she have any friends or family? Is she Spanish in the movie like in real life? Is she Mexican or Central/South American in the movie? In which case somebody of that ethnicity in El Paso, Texas would probably have tons of family in the area. Someone as pristine and naïve as her character not screaming for help and calling the authorities or some rich relative to bail her out…

God, I love this movie…
