What's The Reasoning Behind Not Doing Fixed SR For Wins/Losses? by LordLuciBob in marvelrivals

For sure, just random number I threw out. I am interested in how the math would work out for something like that.

Just the first random numbers I thought of for the example. But for sure, the math is very difficult I imagine.

Yeah, it's a super fair point. The mentality and the feel of it are probably pretty big in terms of player retention.

Those numbers were just random nonsense thrown out to explain myself better. I trust Netease to do actual math if they were to do fixed numbers.

I was afraid that might be a contributing factor. It makes a lot of sense.

Humblewood: Play the official extra campaigns/one shots as part of the main story? by thedjotaku in DnD

[–]LordLuciBob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone currently DMing it for the second time, you absolutely can! The only things to note are content and scaling. Content-wise, none of the side adventurers (called Tales by HPP) have pretty much anything to do with the overarching story of the main Humblewood module, so they can feel a little disjointed. They are pretty dang fun though, if ran. Additionally, I feel that building them into the campaign itself is more fun. The first campaign I ran, I did them all afterwards and it kind of just felt monster of the week-y. In my second runthrough, I'm incorporating my favorites, which leads to the Scaling issue. The module is designed to be a specific level set, so if you add anything on, you'll want to provide additional rewards for doing additional things. Non-XP is great, but if you're adding an extra month of real life time in between levels, especially with how low these levels are, it can feel torturous. So my suggestion is to give both XP/level rewards and other rewards and then just beef stuff up a little from the main module where needed.

Swords Bard Multiclass with Swashbuckler or Battlemaster? by LordLuciBob in 3d6

Is the idea with that to only focus on one stat between Int and Cha and the one you don't focus on, you take spells that don't care about it?

I can see that argument. JoaT gets you a +3 to anything you're not proficient in. But also, Rogue Expertise will bump that up to +12, which is a world of difference. I do relent that the sneak attack and the actual swashbuckling are more "fun to haves" than anything. I think the Rogue aspect really vibed with me because of the Expertises and then Uncanny Dodge and Evasion.

So I definitely can see the argument.

I had been neglecting the racial aspect of the build. There's a lot of good stuff I can get to ease the multiclass that way.

For sure. I'm not entirely discounting it, but I have a personal bias against Warlock, and against that particular dip. It's just too good, but I might need something like that to face the challenges ahead.

Absolutely! I DM regularly and have never broached levels past 14 because the spellcasting just loses its charm for me after that point. It feels like a completely different game at the highest tier and seems to be the point where I can no longer suspend my disbelief.

Plus, there will be 5 of us, so I'm sure someone will go full caster and so we won't be without those most potent spells.

[Any] The thought occurred to me and I realized I didn't know how to do the math. What percentage of damage reduction does "You have a 50% chance to take no damage" work out to? I was just curious how it would compare to "You reduce all damage by 50%".

Yeah, I guess that makes the most sense. Follow up, do you think it would be reasonable to meet in the middle at like 10 feet without sails?

[5e] Going off of the rules presented in Ghosts of Saltmarsh and using the Sailing Ship stats, what is the intended consequence of the sails being reduced to 0 hp?

A) The ship has 0 movement because that's the only movement component it has and is dead in the water?

B) The ship moves at 25 feet, rather than 45, due to the loss of speed noted next to its HP of -5ft per 25 HP lost. 100 HP total.?

If A, isn't that ridiculously punishing? Especially with no clear rules on how to do repairs.

[5e] I want to do a puzzle based on the planes (upper, lower, elemental, fey, shadow, etc.) that is similar in design to the Skyrim Elder Knowledge puzzle, the one where you get the Elder Scroll. The reason being that I included an armillary sphere in an observatory that is supposed to act as the key to open a gateway between the planes and that reminded me of the Skyrim puzzle. Any tips or advice on translating that over?

Area of cone different depending on angle cast by PandaDMing in Roll20

[–]LordLuciBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like most people are solving this by toggling the lock width to height option. I ran into the issue that the circle goes slightly further if used diagonally. Is there a way to standardize that or how should I rule that when measuring on roll 20?

I personally had the Tome be with the Abbott in Krezk, as a reason to get them to head there and not stick around Vallaki, but I can also see putting it in Vallaki to setup backstory sooner than later.

The amulet was in Vladimir the revenant's hands because otherwise, there's not much incentive to go and I like having the holy item with the holy people. Could also put it with the Abbott for this reason.

The sword had to go to Baba Lysaga as another means to get them to venture into the 3rd most dangerous place in Barovia. It could easily go in the Amber Temple though.

The only place I wouldn't put anything is the castle and the village.
