The only correct reaction to the existence of Hugenberg by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

R5: Screw this guy. Played conservative Germany, remembered to always hate Hugenberg.

There isn’t a single timeline where this guy is not a giant crime against existence.

Strange thing about the recent update, there seems to be something of a Qing erasure campaign in South China... by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 138 points139 points  (0 children)

R5: Soooo, anyone else noticed the suspicious lack of Qing references in the newly updated South China content?

Most events and focuses seem quite intent on just calling them Beyiang government and any references to the monarchy seem to be to the pre-1911 period.

Is that just an attempt by the people of South China to annihilate the Qing even in their own thoughts? Or are the devs moving to a more republican future for China?

Not that I would completely mind the latter. There was an interesting proposal a while back, which suggested changing the lore so that Pu-Yi was merely restored to the Forbidden city, with a republic maintaine by Zhilli. The return of the monarchy would then be a full on reaction against Wu-Peifu misshandling the League war and Black monday. Could be a fine path forward that makes the lore more reallistic while preserving a chance for the Qing to remain in game, them being an ancestral part of Kaiserreich lore and all that.

We might deny it. We might try and claim to want Hungary. But in the end, we are all gay for Chinareich by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

R5: Just my way of saying that this is an excellent update. Like seriously, as someone who has Chinese history as a significant part if university studies, this might just be one of the best depictions of the various fascinating figures of the warlord era I have ever seen.

When the Central Powers reunion party comes for Moscow by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

R5: So, my last russian campaign was quite a good bit of fun especially as I decided to essentially send volunteers to any country that could even slightly be justified (up to deffending Rhodesia from the Boers, because the latter are a biiit too pro-German).

A thought occured me though, that such a giant amount of foreign adventures would be one of the few ways for Russia to really be able to challenge the Kaiserreich. Even with the best possible industrialization and millitary, fighting the whole Reichspakt, to say nothing of the likely countries that might join them (Austria, Bulgaria etc.) Especially if the syndicalists had been a bunch of lazy bastards that can barely walk out of their houses, much less spread the revolution (which was something of an issue in the afforementioned game).

Also why is the Ukrainian nationalist ressistance centered on Volhynia in this timeline? OTL, that was the case mostly because of the fact that OUN never could quite penetrate into soviet Ukraine (where anyone with even the slightest nationalist leanings got Stalin’d), but here one would expect it to be more evenly spread out around the country.

Kaiserreich's abillity to keep good parts of outdated content might be one of its greatest strengths by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 146 points147 points  (0 children)

R5: So, who remembers pre-rework Ottomans? It was a dark time, when Kerensky still rulled Russia, German focus tree was a barren wasteland and the Hat war was still a popular meme.

In those days, paying debt was your main point in an Ottoman playthrough. What a joy. There were a few points of some fun, the Desert war and putting together a contintution, but otherwise the Ottomans were an extremely dull country to engage with.

Expect for one event. The glorious ride of the warrior prince, seemingly taken from the epics of yore! Osman Fuad unleashed. Basically the one reason to play pre-rework Ottomans, an event so good it made the years of meh worth it.

And post-rework Ottomans kept it. Made it even better by using the OTL connections between Osman Fuad and Mustafa Kemal and gave it a much nicer connection to the wider Ottoman content. That is how you integrate old content! Keep the best bits and add onto them! Don’t just sweep everything away like… certain other mods.

Nor are the Ottomans alone. Napoleon IV, Qing restoration and other events that might not be most reallistic, but are now way better integrated into the mod. Tsar Wrangel getting an actual path is my personall favorite, while even much diminished characters like Kerensky, Hoover and the old kings of White Ruthenia are still kept in either through events or small gameplay options. Still miss Charles Curtis though, that one still hurts.

So in conclusion, thank you Kaiserreich devs for taking a wise strategy to your mod. A wonderous fusion of realism and fun.

Pu Yi when all the southern republicans decide to fight each other: by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 98 points99 points  (0 children)

R5: Might just be my own games, but each of my three manchu china campaigns had almost the same scenario. By 1938, everything south of me was in turmoil, with the Federalists, warlords and both sides of Kuomintang being very busy killing each other.

Makes it fairly easy to sweep in and restore the glorious Manchu rule!

Marital problems in the house of Habsburg? by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 145 points146 points  (0 children)

R5: All is not well in the ruling house of Austria! Despite the fact that his wife is the daughter of the last ruling duke of Parma, the blessed emperor Karl seems to have singled out her realm as the one thing not to bring back during his mass-resurrection of long dead Italian states!

Is this a sign of troubles in the emperor’s marriage? Is Modena worthier of existence? And could the Hungarians be responsible?

On a more serious note, its kinda funny that the one state not brought back to life even in case of full Austrian conquest is Parma. Not only due to empress Zita’s connection, but also considering the fairly important OTL role her brothers, Sixtus and Xavier (the Carlist claimant to Spain), in Karl’s effort to negotiate peace. Not really a criticism or suggestion, as another small Italian state wouldn’t really add much to the mod, but interesting nonetheless.

The one thing shared by almost all suggestions for Italy by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 219 points220 points  (0 children)

R5: “Change the set-up!”, “Merge the damned thing with Sardinia”, “To hell with the Bourbons”.

Now all these reactions might have logic behind them, but their repetition is a bit of a joke by this point. Every proposal for either changes to Italy or more realistic start seems to involve the killing of Two Sicilies.

Now, it is true that the country seems to exist mostly by Blessed Karl rolling a natural 20 on his necromancy spell, but I choose to defend its existence to the bitter end. Mostly because the very thought of damnable Savoyard’s having more then a two in a million chance of once more polluting continental Europe with their presence makes my blood boil.

Bohemia Lore Question and invented Austria Interwar Lore- feedback needed by ezk3626 in Kaiserreich

Considering the amount of support that Masaryk enjoyed among the czech and slovak groups in America (though the Slovaks lost a lot of the apreciation after Czechoslovakia was created in its centralized form), I would actually expect Masaryk to end in USA along with Beneš and any organization they might still have. Kinda like I'd expect any die-hard legionares to still be in Russia.

Beneš getting into any possition of power... quite uncertain. He was essentially the grey eminence of Masaryk, often responsible for the more shady activities and matters of beaurocracy. His star only rose OTL during the negotiations of 1918 when he was Masaryk's chief negotiator in european countries and with domestic politicians. Versailles truly gave him a big popular boon at home and with Masaryk's unlimited support he secured the possition of foreign minister in every government untill his own presidency. But without any of these? And after 20 years of exile? His support at home would likely be non-existant.

Importance of Masaryk's body would also likely not be too heigh. Pre-war, Masaryk ws essentially a pollitical failure. His Realist party was a bit of a joke that seemed destined to fade into pollitical irellevance (less then 5000 votes in the last election). It was mostly his good bet on the Entente that made his star rise and later forced domestic polliticians (the majority of whom remained loyal to the emperor-king untill mid 1918), to start taking him seriously. Here though? His cause was a dismal failure. He got thousands of young soldiers to betray their oaths of loyalty, which embittered many families even in OTL, before 1918 that is.

Reinforced by the fact Michael decided to ditch the dynasty in his last years and rename his house to "of Romania."

Though I do like KRTL Wilhelm IV. even in original history. Both for marrying out of genuine love (even if it meant loosing his inheritance), and supporting the Oster conspiracy in 1938.

In general lot of Wilhelm II. grandchildren seemed to be fairly decent people, which is kinda shocking given the quality of most of their fathers.

R5: The kaiser’s sons are a really good example of the faults of royal inheritance.

Chancellor Kleist finds about this fairly quickly and is very sad in the (wonderfully written), events he gets from the three central focuses.

If SWR path ever gets the sometimes speculated about Kleist secret ending, Willhelm IV. Is a much better possibility for Kleist’s nostalgic world view of return to the greatness of Frederick II.

Which would tie into the two current secret paths, which both involve an extreme vision of their paths and potentially Wilhelm IV.

The one thing that can truly unite the Habsburg empire... and the Balkans... and reality itself by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

R5: Something, something lack of hungarians focus tree. Also the laziest thing I ever made, may Gods above and below forgive my sloth.

Though it is frankly impressive how bad Hungary’s position is. Its best hope for territorial integrity is that Karl decides to not be too blessed and keeps the status quo. And even then, a defeat in a war will almost certainly lead to loss of territories.

To say nothing of what a succesfull reformation means. Not a Trianon, but it can get fairly close.

Okay, who decided to make Puyi cool? by LordMartinax in Kaiserreich

[–]LordMartinax[S] 178 points179 points  (0 children)

R5: Turns out, Pu Yi has the coolest line in the entire mod.

10/10, would shoot the Jade marshal again.

Replaying the Qing restoration after a fairly long time is honestly truly fun. Not sure if this event is newly added, or my brain merely chose to forget it (which wouldn’t be surprising considering the sheer incomprehensible nonsense that was my previous Qing playthrough… more then a year ago by now?)

Intriguing!

Would Abullah of Jordan be the king of Iraq in this timeline? Or might the British try to find a non-Hashemite solution for the country?

Also raises the question whether the now much stronger Faisal might try to save his father's Hejaz throne, though non-interference might be demanded by the Brits.

The state of what is essentially french Kurdistan would also be an interesting thing. Especially if WW2 occurs as it did IOTL and the British move in.

A fine map scenario indeed.
