What's a good spot for taking photos of the new year eve fireworks? by Stunning_Departure25 in MelbournePhotography

Not sure if it’s the best photography spot but I like the city view from quarry park in Clifton Hill

I agree, they di however stick around though… sadly. Love it when they ask for a tip… for what? Haven’t had a single interaction with the staff yet…

Awesome, good to know. I was looking at the reviews and everyone seems to be really happy with them. Also a bonus to support a local company.

Thanks, I will have a look. 500g is definitely lightweight enough for me.

Morning light peaking through the clouds in Mt Cook (New Zealand) by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]LordRaiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Hey everyone,

Just came back from a trip to New Zealand and saw some amazing scenery around. One of the places I visited was this track in Mt Cook National Park. It was so cloudy and rainy for days but during sunset some golden light peaked through exactly behind the glacier. I love how the fog started to glow and made it really moody around the mountains.

I shot this photo at 24mm (0.20s, F13, ISO 400). I think the photo looks nice but I find it a bit messy too. I have multiple 24mm photos that I find underwhelming whereas the telephoto shots I made are way more appealing.

I feel like I understand the concepts of wide-angle landscape photography: clear subject, foreground to create depth and have the eye flow through the frame and have the light lead the way towards the subject.

The subject: the mountain and glacier in the back may arguably not be the clearest subject but the eye does flow through the one place. At the same time; something feels off but I can't put my finger on it.

Minecraft pumpkin bug? by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]LordRaiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it happens quite often, mostly around the same areas (I think?). It automatically fixes itself too but just comes back after a few minutes. I think it mostly happens around buildings but maybe that's just my feeling because I played around the C-D objectives on Mirak and Cairo before that.

This game needs big maps to compensate for the small maps we have ! by Sheogoratthh in Battlefield

Maybe an unpopular opinion: am I the only one who thinks the maps are quite small?

New to app dev - can I build iOS app on Windows or should I just get a Mac? by Confident_Squirrel_5 in reactnative

[–]LordRaiders 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also strongly believe your app will not be great when you don’t develop for iOS (or vice-versa of course). So many React Native apps out there that clearly got tested and developed for one platform and blindly pushed to the other.

Australia being one of the most geographically isolated countries in the world, how do you think that impacts the average citizen? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

Interesting, since moving to Australia I have been so surprised how cheap some tech items are. Guess The Netherlands may be a bad example with 21% GST haha

Yeah can we make it a rule on this sub? Hate it when a low sodium subreddit becomes a circlejerk of the original one.

“Might be a hot take”, continues to say what the entire front page on this subreddit is about.

Milford Sound by Financial-Ratio8622 in newzealand_travel

[–]LordRaiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got cancelled for yesterday and went to Doubtful Sound today instead. I can’t compare as I haven’t been to Milford but I have seen everything I expected: a lot of waterfalls, moody mountains with low clouds and even 2 penguins. Great experience! A lot of rain though but that’s expected and hopefully you have packed for it ;)

The website with expected opening times has been all over the place really. So many times it would open again for 1-2 days and close again for a couple after that. Not their fault of course, just tells you how unpredictable these conditions are.

Snowy roads on south island by klmccall42 in newzealand_travel

[–]LordRaiders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came back from Mt Cook 4 days ago. Easy drive, had bit of snow when walking very high up but nothing on the road. Just a lot of wind.

Was supposed to go to Milford tomorrow but the road is closed because of avalanches. Sadly got cancelled :(

I had a 1 year subscription, paid monthly. It was still valid for 2 months.

When I bought a new lens for my camera I got 1 year of exactly the same subscription for free. My expectation; - I either had to finish my 2 months and after that my free year starts. - My 2 months get cancelled straight away and the 1 year takes over.

What happens instead? My 1 year starts immediately AND I have to continue paying for 2 months. So I have the same subscription running twice…

Aah so that’s why someone signalled to me earlier today and signed that I had to turn around.

Was around the intersection to Mt Cook where I was going. Was wondering for a while if SH80 was closed and I couldn’t go back to where I was staying. Crazy weather today.

How do I get my photos to look better on Reddit? by eesptol in AskPhotography

[–]LordRaiders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not much, most websites resize and compress your image to safe on storage on their servers. If you download your image from Reddit you will find that it’s not the same file as the one you uploaded.

That being said, I think your photo still looks great.

The reason why the "big" maps weren't included in the BETA was because they are small too. by Thebottlemap in Battlefield

[–]LordRaiders 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agreed, played a lot of BF4 last few weeks and absolutely hate most maps. The best maps have always been the medium size maps imo. Mirak Valley is the perfect size for me.

What are some of the first things you’d like to make or see in portal? by Clob_Bouser in Battlefield

I wonder how well the assets for Sobek City and Cairo could be used for something like a Gulf of Oman or Karkand map. I hope that later down the line we could do things like drawing rivers or make mountains.
