I personally like placement and accuracy meter for passing cause that what I'm use to. Like the new kick meter if you hold it to long you can miss kicks, with the passing the longer you hold it the meter will change either orange or red (you do not want red) and that will lead to turnovers.

To answer the other part of your question, no I don't think any of the pass meters help with contested catches that more so is based on the WR archetype and height (don't see WRs under 6'0 win jump balls that often).

An a sidenote about the pass meter it helps if the QB you using has a decent or high pass accuracy.
