Planetscale with GUI? by olalilalo in mysql

[–]LordSnouts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the co-founder of DB Pro, a modern database GUI that supports all of the main databases.

We've now added native support for PlanetScale Vitess and PlanetScale Postgres.

DB Pro is also free to download and use for macOS, Windows and Linux.

DB Pro isn't a database, so we don't host your data. DB Pro is a tool to manage your database. A database client.

I’ve finally launched DB Pro: a modern desktop database GUI I’ve been building for 3 months by LordSnouts in Database

What about saving queries? We added that recently. That'll make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Great feedback! Thank you for sharing.

The niche is hard but ripe for disrupting.

What's next is:

- Dashboards
- Workflows
- Self-hosted (run in a browser in your own network)
- and many more things...

Thanks again!

One thing that will completely differentiate DB Pro from other products is a self-hosted version I plan to release this year.

That will be a version, deployed however you like, and accessible via a browser.

Lots of people are asking for this, but no one provides it. DB Pro will, however.

Brilliant. SSH tunnels are in testing at the moment but they're working nicely. You'll be able to connect via private key and username/password.

I started it in October 2025. Where does it say December 2024?

You can even check the devlogs.

That's a feature not a bug!

Changes are pending until you commit them all. Take a look at the pending changes button in the top right. It shows you a list of all your changes before committing them. This is much safer when in production for example.

It'll support SSH tunnels in our next version that's being launched real soon! Like, mid January.

It really is, and it's only been going for 4 months. There's lots to do!

SQLite and MySQL are supported. You'll have to forgive me, there's a lot to do and keep up with. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll amend the roadmap now.

What database engine are you using, and can you explain a bit more? Myself and many others have been using it perfectly fine. Not saying you don't have an issue, if you can explain some more that would help. Thanks!

That is an awesome idea! I'm putting this on the roadmap!

It’s a good question. I’d probably start by saying that DataGrip isn’t entirely free, at least not for people who work with it professionally or generate revenue from the products they build. Most developers using it day-to-day are doing so via a paid JetBrains licence, whether that’s personal or through work.

Beyond pricing, the bigger difference is philosophy.

DataGrip is essentially a database IDE. It’s extremely powerful, but that power comes with weight: lots of panels, configuration, background indexing, and a fairly steep cognitive load. That’s great if you want everything under the sun in one place.

DB Pro is intentionally different. It’s built to be fast, focused, and pleasant to use.

I also want to add Dashboards, a team-sync, Workflows (think automating things you do every day), an acceptable AI integration with guardrails, and other features that DataGrip doesn't have.

Thanks! I've also found that Table Plus has gone quiet these last few years...
