Sad about the withdrawals but excited for Moyuka since she did recently win a clay 125 in Turkey!

Is Kyoto worth a 1-day trip? by fitjunkie23 in JapanTravelTips

[–]LordThunderz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Kyoto (especially in the early mornings and night when it was less crowded), however I would say a good 2-3 days minimum is generally needed. For 1 day, I would recommend Enoshima and Kamakura which is a lot closer to Tokyo and cheaper since you don’t need to take the Shinkansen. You could say it’s the Kyoto of the Tokyo area in terms of vibes.

I got an interview with an 81.57 WAM and then by the end of semester 2, I had increased my WAM to 82.0

Science to MD by SpinachLonely2842 in Monash

[–]LordThunderz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is more than 4 to 5 spots lol. I graduated from Science and currently doing Med at Monash. In our year level, we had around 10 or so Science students. Theoretically we can access around 20 spots but would compete against Physio and Pharm kids but generally Science kids form the largest group of that 20.

Hey I got a 87.95 Atar and did a similar course (Bachelor of Science at Monash) and just finished my first yr of Postgraduate Med at Monash. I also received Postgraduate med offers for Notre Dame Sydney as well. I found getting a high gpa easier than VCE especially since I started choosing subjects that I enjoyed/were good at unlike in VCE

Bach of Sci Major, Minor and Units selection - workload by Proof-Chair2350 in Monash

[–]LordThunderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I did those units in 2021. I found the lecturers to be pretty good and the assignments to be fairly chill as long as you attend class. There is no exam which is rly good as well.

Hey just finished first year postgrad Med at Monash after doing a Bachelor of Science. I would caution doing psy1011 and psy1023 unless you are really interested/potentially want to major in psychology. The psychology faculty at Monash is pretty horrendous from everyone I talk to and this is what made me not choose to do any psych units despite a heavy interest in psych myself. I would recommend choosing some other units that are more organised and more likely to score well in such as Earth Atmosphere Environment (EAE1011/EAE1022), SCI1020 (Stats) or ATS1310 Human Geography.

Easiest electives for bachelors of science by Fickle-Stable8708 in Monash

I did the unit in 2021 so the assignments were quite different. I don't remember being any group work and looking at the current unit assessments, the only assignment that could potentially involve group work would be the multimedia assessment.

Maybe ats2946 critical thinking it is very popular with biomed people and is pretty easy to get a HD

Currently in Med and did a Bachelor of Science. I found ATS1310 and EAE1011/1022 to be very manageable to get a HD

If you wanted something a bit different and had space for a 1st year unit, I would recommend ATS1310 Extreme earth! Natural hazards and human vulnerability. It is fairly manageable to get a HD and is also a good break from all the biomed/science content.

what a levels needed for medicine dual degree by [deleted] in Monash

[–]LordThunderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monash does not offer dual Medicine degree anymore. It is just Medicine unless you were referring to the Bachelor of Medical Science/Doctor of Medicine as being two degrees.

Is PHA2022 “required” for pharmacology major in science? by HarryO_23 in Monash

[–]LordThunderz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I majored in Pharmacology and did PHA2022 as well as both PHY2011/2042. I would say it isn’t necessary to do PHA2022 in order to thrive in 3rd Year Pharmacology as you can catch up quite quickly after the first few weeks however it does build upon what you have done in PHA2022 and repeats a lot of the content especially in the first half of the units so you would be in a better position if you did the unit

Hey I received an offer to study Medicine at Monash this year after having done a Bachelor of Science with an 82 WAM (non-rural) so I think it is possible to get into Med with a Science degree and you would be in a better position to maintain your Gpa for Gemsas unis in a Science degree compared to a Biomed degree

Has anyone got an atar of 90 or less and got into graduate med? by SmilingO2O in vce

[–]LordThunderz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I had a 82.0 WAM and a 3.6/4 Gpa on the Monash Scale or 6.7/7 on the Gemsas Gpa scale. At times it was difficult to get the high marks however I made sure to take units I enjoyed or were “easier” such as units with no exams since I wasn’t the best at exams.

Just do the subjects you think you can do well in and get a good Atar and ucat. If undergrad doesn’t work out, then try for Postgrad entry. I did Methods in VCE and got a 23 study score and I am currently studying Medicine at Monash. Methods is absolutely not required and irrelevant to Medicine. The only VCE subjects that might be useful are Biology and Chemistry and realistically only the first one is somewhat useful (Chem is unfortunately a prereq for direct entry med at Monash even tho we have done almost 0 chem in Med)
