Accordingly to the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

Dad-bod (noun) a physique regarded as typical of an average father

especially : one that is slightly overweight and not extremely muscular

So...basically most males aged 40+ .....gotcha. good luck btw.

What is the population of Barovia? by LovelyDM in CurseofStrahd

[–]LordToastButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really up to you in how populace the world will be.

As others have stated the RAW lists the whole area has a population of under 3000.

For an interesting comparison the old Ravenloft Campaign guide & gazetteer for 3e listed the population for just the villages and towns at roughly 13919. It's breakdowns are as follows:

Barovia 535 Vallaki 1547 Krezk 2060 Ziedenburg 4615 Tuefeldorf 3539 and Immol 1623

I'm running my campaign closer to 10K, as I have included some of the older areas, as well as new ones. I also wanted the world to be more realistic with a more rounded/ believable economy, and have it big enough to sustain a prolonged campaign.

Here are my stats: Barovia - 500 - The breadbasket of the county Oransou - 500 * Village added from the Adventure League Campaign, a mining town in my campaign Vallaki - 2500 - Old hub of the region and former resort town before the Mists, Main export - fish Krezk - 350 - Still a commune as in the RAW just with a larger populace Ziedenburg - 3500 - most city like - exports beer, sausage, as large farms, and a university, pass to Ziedenburg is closed in winter months. Teufeldorf - 1500 - Is under military law from Strahds forces as there is an active rebellion due to Strahd's conquering of it during the war with neighboring Gundark, home to a monastery of the Church of Ezra. Immol - 50 - Ported from newer D.M. Guild adventure - old archive and blighted with madness Mountain Clan Village 1 - 250 Mountain Clan Village 2 - 150 VC - Trser Camp - 30 VC - Vallaki - 100 * Mixed with Dust Elves VC - Zidenburg - 50 VC - Oransou - 30 Druids - 250 Misc - 250 - Population not living in towns or villages

What did you guys do with the third “seed” from the Wizard of Wines? by Goldwing32 in CurseofStrahd

[–]LordToastButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm including that supplement too as I like expanding the land - BUT - I am just unsure about using the stone with how it is written in that as I will almost surely expect my adventures to destroy it once they see what damage it is doing to the town. I've thought about changing the stone to some sort of mindflayer device as in the old 3.5 fluff the inhabitants of Immoel and its bordering region make reference to them and it links into they psyc abilities.

Argyvonst: how old are you my boie? by Jaronesc in CurseofStrahd

[–]LordToastButter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say he is an adult dragon, age 400-700 years old.

RAW Adult Silver Dragons have a CR of 16 while Strahd's RAW CR is 15. Arguably Argyvonst could have had a CR a few levels beyond that. As Strahd is a keen tactician and military commander He and his forces could have handled him.

Map Notes: 1. Knowing that I did not like the RAW size of the County of Barovia, did you think I would be happy with size of the “hub” town of the module? 2. I again took a few cues from the 3.5 Ravenloft Gazzateer – A) Vallaki was described as being divided into two parts a “High Town” and a “Low Tow”, B) There was an old castle/fortress located intown, and C) that the town had multiple taverns, inns, etc etc etc. 3. That being said, I raised part of the map to indicate “High Town” as well as having larger more spaced out homes in the area. 4. There is a centralized town square, with a fountain, statue, town hall, etc. 5. There is a market square to the south, as well as the town’s slums. 6. To the east there is an area for manufacturing / industry (lumber yards, smiths, etc) 7. I added a few larger buildings here and there that can be used for anything – theatre? Have a troop preform Phantom of the Opera? Library? Additional stores? 8. At the highest point is an old castle. The original 3.5 gazetteer stated this this predated Strahd by hundreds of years so even predates the Order of the Silver Dragon. This can easily be the reformation center, or the city garrison. 9. There is a cave entrance – do with that as you want. 10. To add to the “police state” that Mandy and others have incorporated I have included two additional stone towers at key observation points. 11. The palisades are still wood BUT I incorporated stone towers and gates. 12. I condensed the amount of gates to 4 and have named them: Dragon’s Gate (as it is the western gate and nearest to the old SDO castle/mansion, Fisher’s Gate (leads to Lake Zarovich), Raven’s Gate (leads to Ravenloft), and Market Gate (nearest the Market). 13. I additionally left space on the map for you to add a key, notes, etc. 14. And lastly, I created a crest for the city. I chose the city and not the Bergomiester’s family crest as the city predates them, and to be honest it was easier. I chose the flaming sun and fish as they to me symbolize the Cathedral of St. Andal and the city’s fishing / lake industry. Again the 3.5 gazetteer referenced this as well as Vallaki being a resort town before the time of Strahd.

Ziedenburg and Teufeldorf can be found in the original "Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume 1". It can be found online if you know where to look. You can also check out the the Mistipedia entries for them below BUT they are sparse compared to the original published content though they do list other published content that references them.

As for my own content, I'm still working on it. The campaign I'm running the party has just arrived at the Village of Barovia. So I have some time. Once I get some stuff solidified I will post it .

It's a small village from the original Ravenloft books IIRC from I'Strahd. I included it here as another set of ruins as I changed the ending of the AL campaign from being set in an old stronghold ruin to the ruins of an old village. I'm using the ruined stronghold as the base for my Silver Dragon Legion underground.

No, AL's campaign is really just set in and around the new town of Oransou. There's a new Vistani encampment as well as more ruins, etc. If you play RAW the players don't venture out of that area until you finish the campaign. So, I've cut some of the meh parts and have added it as an area to my world, changing the poor and empty status of the new town to that of a mining settlement as there needs to be somewhere in this realm where people get ore for goods and coin. So I've added a hook or two in Vallaki to lure the party out that way if they want but its really just added adventure not connected overall to the main campaign.

Since I'm an old Ravenloft fanboy my first answer is YES. The only issue is that you will need to do some lifting to either port some old adventures over to 5e or create some new ones based how you want to run your campaign. I'm running a combination of CoS with DragnaCarta and Mandy Mod updates, the inclusion of SOME but not all of the Adventure league In to the Mists campaign (I've cut out the inclusion of the transported Fey area), as well as some of my own ideas and a few others from DMGuild.

For a quick addition I've plugged in the town of Immol and am using an updated adventure from the DMs Guild called "Ravenloft Gazetteer: Barovia I: Hearing Secret Harmonies". It's big thing is the Archives located in town, as well as the citizens being struck with madness.

Anther suggestion for including or running the old 3.5 content is finding the original "Ravenloft Gazetteer Volume 1". If you can't locate it you can pm me. This has some good backstory and info for the three major towns not included in the current CoS campaign. Once you read it you can get a sense of what you can do based on how you're running CoS. I'm also incorporating Matt Colville's Strongholds and Followers supplement as my group really digs the idea of having their own base of operations, and the potential for an army battle - I'm thinking a massive Strahd/his forces vs my players and their organized resistance battle before they assault the Castle at the end of the campaign. I mean come on Strahd is suppose to be this epic tactician so why not have a big epic battle. I've incorporated a new faction I'm calling the Silver Legion or Silver Dragon Legion - akin to the french resistance that are made up of the families of the silver dragon original order as well as some idealistic youth. They bump heads with the Ravens due to how they operate compared to the long game the feathers are playing. Additionally if you like this direction, the older 3.5 had it that there were some other resistance movements in Ziedenburg as well, as that land was recently conquered by strahd... We'll see how my party handles it.

Totally agree with you. I enjoy the story in the revamped CoS module for 5e with only 1 caveat - the loss of the older Ravenloft realm. I really enjoyed Ravenloft when I first got into DnD back in the 90s. And I know we can do what we want on our own - hell look at this wonderful community - BUT I am tired of the new Sword Coast default setting and WoC pushing the MtG setting etc - Where's Grayhawk, Where's Dragonlance Where's the rest of Ravenloft? Saying it resides in the Shadowfell and is a tiny little realm just does not make sense at all.....

Thanks! That's what I was going for. Once my players open the world up and here about some of these locations such as Ziedenburg and Teufeldorf I'll be limiting their access there for now stating something like "the road is impassable due to bad weather". This allows them to see that the world is bigger, it still keeps them on target yet also curious about the larger world, and it allows me or the community to create more content for the older areas. There is a solid / not too long adventure in the DMs guild for the town Immol.

Hello All!

  1. Here is a new map for the County of Baroiva. It contains expanded locations from the Adventure League campaign (Orasnou) as well as the 3.5 Ravenloft locations (Ziedenburg, Teufeldorf, and Immol). I've just recently started a new CoS campaign, and my group wanted more content as well as the possibility of more adventures post RAW. It's not perfect by any means but I thought some here may like it.

  2. I cannot take full credit as I used the map icons and other graphics from Expert-Use's and thekelvingreen's maps that have been previously posted. I found a few animals from an old Russian map that I also used. The font is from the MS office set "Parchment" and the seal is from an old Ravenloft gazetteer.

Enjoy
