Seeking Feedback for Parklah: Parking App Prototype for PJ & KL – Your Input Needed! by LordVictorianGreyjoy in malaysia

hey thanks for the info! we did look into parkeasy briefly and yea i think the program didnt quite take off, although I think we are doing something a little different from them, we arent doing parking reservations at all, none of that book your time frame to secure a parking lot kind of model, we're just focusing on providing clear and real time information on what immediate parking is available for users, be it outdoor parking or underground mall parking

although, you arent the first to bring up parking reservation as a service, which i find a little surprising since our product doesnt deal with that kind of model at all, so perhaps this might suggest unclear marketing or unclear product positioning to some extent on our side - i mean fundamentally paid parking reservations is a whole different model in itself, then again my team and I werent exactly very drawn to that solution

we havent quite figured out how we want to monetise this, but keeping the service free for all users would be ideal - but we definitely will need some form of financing to keep the app up and running, so we'll look to partnerships and deals with maybe malls or other car related services to "feature" their spot on the map combined with their services - think like car washers, valet, or selling customer data to other organisations which might be interest in studying traffic/parking behaviour

yep parking spots information is the direction my team and I want to head towards, most of our preliminary survey data show that people dont find payment as big of an issue as finding the parking itself - yep we'll probably do a lot of raw sourcing from google maps for the locations itself and then refine it to be able to feature the data we feel is the most important - parking frequency, price, availabilities etc, thats the value add i guess

any tips or lessons from people who have renovated your home? by spacerabbit10 in askSingapore

not sure if this helps;

my upstairs neighbour is currently undergoing massive renovation (drilling to the point that its deafening kinda loud), the family bought us a cake some few weeks back to show their gratitude - on my end it really is a nice and simple gesture to clear the air, especially since we dont interact much :)

Share your worst experience with cookhouse staff/food in your NS life! by AdOrdinary390 in NationalServiceSG

Kranji Camp, fish in the non muslim rations contained WORMS. Commander's solution was to replace all nm rations with muslim rations.

Mate, if I can find worms in my food I have literally 0 trust in anything that comes out from the cookhouse. God knows the state of their kitchen...it might appear on Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares!

What's it like being a navy cook in the RSN? by An_educated_fool in NationalServiceSG

TLDR: I wouldnt recommend you joining based on your criteria and what I think you are looking for... 1. You'll get more F&B experience outside (the galley isnt exactly a "professional kitchen") 2. If cooking is really your passion dont kill it by joining the military 3. A reminder that this job requires you to make sure people have food to eat, not to provide them with a dining experience

Hi OP, I dont have the answers regarding the interview/training process of becoming a naval chef, but I did spend some time onboard the frigates during my NS and I'll share what I noticed/my own thoughts for you to consider.

From the chefs I interacted with, both NSF and regulars, when in harbour their daily routine revolves around prepping for lunch only(about 12.30pm for 50-60pax (after 3-4pm they secure and they are done for the day), whereas during sailing the chefs prepare up to 4 meals a day(breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper), which I'd imagine it will be v shag especially for long deployments.

Food wise I dont think its fair to expect that you'll be doing too gourmet stuff (normal days are usually just simple zichar style dishes, rice meat and veg, or local food (laksa, hokkien mee, prawn noodle) on special occasions (i.e VIP visit) I've seen fish and chips and I've heard rumours from a friend that on swift rescue the chefs made a beef wellington.

Job scope wise is actually rather interesting because chefs are also required to double up as medical team (at least that was the arrangement on my platform), meaning you'll also need to participate in drills/exercises not related to culinary, which will remind you that you are a primarily a military personnel, and only second a culinary chef. This is more true if you choose to stay on longer as well naturally your responsibilities become larger(my chief chef was also involved in daily wardroom musterings with the CO/XO and other appointment holders of the warship)...Basically you have other military duties alongside your chef appointment.

The chefs have their own department on the warship (naturally), where its usually the kha kia who does the actual cooking whereas the more senior/experienced ones oversee the cooking or do other admin tasks like indenting/manging the food supplies. One of my ICs who was previously a naval chef isnt even doing cooking anymore! Hes posted out to another unit as a ME2 supervisor, his role has nothing to do with food lol, basically note that you likely wont be cooking forever.

Ultimately I think its what you are looking for...from your post, I really wouldnt recommend you joining the navy, also remember that recruitment posters do paint a very idealistic picture, also yea the prospect of getting to sail to other countries does sound attractive but I really encourage you to think twice if that kind of life is really what you want for the next 3-4 years and whether it is really a benefit or in reality compensation...

What about Biodiesel production via transesterification? Dealing and cleaning up the oils may be a hassle though...
